hi all, i just wanted to say i relapsed for about a week but yesterday i quit again.im really getting angry now LOL.im so sick of this vicious circle of quitting then relapse!!i was sitting out on my patio yesterday,in about 102 degree weather,,puffing away and struggling to breathe at the same time when something hit me,,i thought "this is what it must be like to have emphyasemia(sp?),,and it scared the heck out of me.i was so frustrated and angry at myself that i put the cigarette out ,angrily, came inside and put a patch on.i then ran my pack of cigarettes under the water, kissed my grandson(who is only 3 weeks old) and promised him grandma is doing this for him!so just wanted to vent alittle and say im back..hope everyone is doing well. peace, sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24 Amount Saved: $5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 2 Mins: 46 Seconds: 46

hi princessC, im sorry about your mom, i lost my mom to lung cancer from smoking for over 40 years of her life.i DONT want my children to go through what i went through losing a parent so young(she died in 1990).sometimes i think about those moments when she was sick and i think to myself,"i must be crazy smoking"!thats NOT something you do to your children and now my grandson when its totally preventable.so i will keep this quit dear to my heart,,because no matter how you look at it,,smoking KILLS!! sorry for being so blunt but i get frustrated that im actually addicted to smoking when i always thought i was such a strong person.oh well hope everyone is doing well and thanks for all the posts, it sooooo helps me. peace always, sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 36 Amount Saved: $5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 6 Seconds: 30

Secondhand smoke may not be the biggest problem with children. There was a little girl who lived next door to me, who would visit almost daily. I once told the little girl how dumb my smoking was and she was not to do it. She got really, really upset and said, My grandma smokes and she's not dumb, and then the little girl ran home. Smoking around children leads them to think that smoking is okay, especially when someone they love and admire is doing it. Hi Sue, You can do this, you CAN quit for good. I found the thoughts of smoking consumed my every waking hour the first week of my quit. I quit cold turkey. Beleive in the quit, beleive in you and beleive that you can do it and you WILL succeed. Do anything just dont smoke. I love this quote and i have it plastered everywhere.
Its better to be a non smoker with an occasional craving for a cig, than a smoker with the constant desire to quit
God Bless PrincessC :) x My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 525 Amount Saved: $224.4 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 5 Seconds: 51

Hey Tuzer64 :) They say if you take a breath in then breath in again, thats how someone with emphysemia feels. My friends mom died of emphysemia and it was painful to see. I sure felt the effects of my smoking in the humid hot weather, it was awful and to be honest did to me what it did to you - terrified me. Fight the good fight :) Its such a liberating feeling. Choose life :) PrincessC :) x My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 523 Amount Saved: $224.4 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 59 Seconds: 42

Welcome to the SSC. Congrats on your decision to quit smoking. Knowledge is power, so get prepared. Get prepared for your mind to deal with emotions without the mask of a drug. Know that the nicotine in cigarettes has caused you to be physically addicted. Take comfort in knowing the physical withdrawal will stop approximately 72 hours if you can resist nicotine products. Be fully aware that your life routine will have to be experienced without smoking cigarettes for you to be quit. So throw them away. Do not save any. What is your routine? When do you smoke? Make a list of your triggers (when you would normally smoke). It is better to think about all of these things ahead of time so that you can go into battle prepared. Replace your bad habit (smoking) with good habits. Read about healthy ways to deal with stress/emotions and start practicing your new coping skills. Get yourself ready physically by walking more, take in more fluids, get plenty of rest and avoid becoming overtired. Tell people around you that youre going to quit. Get yourself a Quit Buddy who will be there to provide you personal quit-smoking help and support. Fight the urge to protect yourself from looking silly if you dont make it all the way. Believe in yourself from the very beginning. Make it come true. If you dont make it this time, what matters is that you get back up and try again. Also, dont forget to make rewards a part of your plan. Quitting takes a lot of work, so you want to make sure you give yourself credit along the way. Keep a list of rewards you look forward to - it will help keep you motivated. Watch out for alcohol, social situations, other smokers, weight gain, and bad moods/depression. These things can make you fall off the Quit Wagon. Like Ive said be prepared for these things. Weve quit. You can too. Well be here to support you if you need us. I look forward to celebrating your milestones with you.
