Quittings not Fair

Hi I am the singing Hubby Daatske writes about .... to be honest i am feeling very very guilty right now....... Why ? Well this was all my idea in the first place 35 years of smoking and yours truly decided two weeks ago whilst enjoying a cigarette & cold beer in the garden " Hey Bren I'm going to give up smoking as a Birthday present to me from me " five min's latter Bren was still catching flies... mouth open didn't say a word. I did throw in the old line "But if you want to carry on smoking Bren that's .....OK ... " which, on reflection only get's 1/10 on the sincerity ladder. Before you guy's beat me up with A4 E-mails Bren did freely volunteer to give up smoking on my Birthday " If you can do it, so can I " she said. History I was a heavy smoker 20-30 a day for 35 years. I was also a canny smoker, back up supplies were never far away spare pack's at the ready in the car, at home, in the office, etc etc. Oh yea !!! I had back up cigarette lighters as well including one on my key ring "After all, let's face it cigarettes don't taste good if you don't light them first " So giving up logically should be a nightmare for me.... restless nights..... painful day's ... head butting wall's etc The Truth Day 1 Was one big mind game had to go to bed early but I won. Day 2 Was Mr Angry day I was so frustrated my head said no and my body was screaming .....are you an idiot or what !!! Day 3 Was a strange day felt weak no energy and carried a constant sickly feeling in my stomach. Day 4 Happy Bunnie Day ================= Bren was a controlled smoker (If there is such a term) 1- 5 cigarettes a day max. some day's 0 most day's 1-3, when visiting her mother recently she didn't smoke for 4 day's not a problem, didn't smoke during the day only in the evenings. Gave up same time as me and is suffering every hour of every day........ including today !!!! doesn't make sense and for sure it's not fair. Guess the message is we all react differently but if you don't try you will never know!!! Thank you .... before I go I would sincerely like to thank all you guy's that take the time / trouble to share an experience or more importantly give needed encouragement. Bren get's a motivational injection when she receives your mail, so with your contin

Hi, Confused. Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on your 4 days quit. :) I think the biggest difference between you and Bren is the quit decision was yours, made for yourself, and she's following along thinking it's a good idea. You were ready, subconciously, but she wasn't. That difference is huge in terms of the ease of quitting. She just isn't ready right now. That's not meant as negative as it sounds and I'm not saying this quit isn't going to work. I'm just saying she's going to have a struggle. She can do this, though. I've seen people go into quits like this, struggle like mad for a while, then something switches in their head and all the problems just melt away. The secret is just hanging in there long enough. Whatever it takes. Stay strong and keep up the good quits. Confused, The decision to quit smoking in itself is such a huge step in the right direction. It is important when deciding to quit, that we quit for the right reasons and that we truly feel we are ready to quit smoking. Honesty with one self is key to a successfull quit. Be true to yourself and your endeavor to quit smoking and you will successfully succeed. If you have not, please take advantage of our free quit program as you access your glove compartment when logging on to our site. This program will help you through each step of the quitting process. Remember the SSC Support Team is always here to help you with your quit. Please keep us posted. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
