Worst time of day AM. Any suggestions?

SherriAnn, Check out this thread for some of the things I have tried. I kept what was nearly a diary of my daily experiences in this thread during the worst parts of the anxiety. By using the many techniques I experimented with I have virtually eliminated the morning anxiety. In fact, except for a couple of small "trip ups" I have not suffered anxiety for some time now. I am careful to continue my methods and be vigilant about my surroundings and most of all I am very much aware of how much stress I am causing myself. It wasnt easy but I have learned to say "no" to requests that I know will stress me out. I had a great week this week and another weekend is upon me. I have a project planned as I find that doing domething productive is very helpful in keeping the blues away. I am still taking my Effexor and I take Xanax at night to sleep but I have not needed the Xanax during the day in some time now. I am much better, both mentally and physically, than the fellow that started this thread. Have a great day and rnjoy life! Mike

Mike, I too find that my anxiety is the worst when I first awaken. I often feel like there is something medically wrong with me when I first awaken. My eyes are puffy, I feel really disoriented, once I am up for awhile I slowly start to feel better. I also awaken during the night feeling a bit panicky but usually can go back to sleep. I would like help on this morning thing as well.

I had a tiny snag this morning again. It went away in only a moment but I did notice it. I am going to look back over this thread for a pattern. Maybe I can see something that gives me a tip as to the cause of the hiccups. There may be a pattern that correlates to specific days of the week or perhaps some scheduled activities. Then I could get a clue from my usual routine. My week is pretty predictable most of the time so I'm willing to explore this a little. I will not dwell on it much, as that could be counter productive. For instance...If I find that Sunday is a frequent day that I get the blues I may be able to relate it to a large meal before bed on Saturday, red meat, weekend stress etc. Im not sure where this will lead but if nothing else it will occupy me for a day or so. :) We are most afraid of things we do not understand...it is my goal to understand this thing. By understanding it, I will free myself from its grip. Anyway, today will be a great one for me and for you too. Make it so. Mike

We werent sequestered at all, we went home for the evening and were given many breaks during the day. It really was an enlightening positive experience. Mike

Thanks for posting this, Mike. What important discoveries to make! So many people automatically imagine too that jury duty means being sequestered for ages, which obviously was not the case with your group.

Well the little "skip" I experienced a few days ago didnt fester or grow. It just turned out to be nothing. I am relieved. My ploy with the jury duty did not work however and I was indeed selected to be on a jury. I served for two days in a battery case. I felt stress knowing someone elses fate would be partially in my hands, but once we retired to the jury room we were all in agreement right away and our deliberations only took about 5 minutes. It was almost like having an unwitting small support group. It proved to me that even when stressed, I am able to think straight and reasonably!. I will use this tidbit of knowledge in the future when I begin to have my irrational thoughts. Overall being on the jury was a positive life experience and I learned a valuable lesson from it. So just when you think life is going to spin you around, it winds up giving you a lift. Have a great day today! Mike

Well, after a lengthy time with no symptoms I had what I would call the very beginnings of my usual pattern this morning. I did not have any anxiety nor did I have my "usual" negative thoughts, but I noticed that I would dwell on thoughts that I did not wish to for extended periods of time against my will. This is how the cycle usually begins for me. The unwanted thoughts gradually become more and more negative... But this time I caught it right away and will take some measures to control it. My puzzle is this....what triggered this? Yesterday was quite stressful. I spent the entire day doing things that I did not wish to do but was obligated to. I am right back to thinking stress is the trigger. Today I will relax and do somethings for myself in an attempt to ward off the evil thought spirits! :) I took a Xanax this morning for the first time in about 10 days I think. I figured that it is better to be calm than to let the train gather steam so to speak. So today is going to be a stress free recovery day. I will meditate several times today when possible, listen to my music and maybe even watch a movie. Getting some general quality down time is my goal for this Sunday. Tomorrow I have jury duty so that should provide me with lots of time to read while waiting to be called. Plus...as soon as the attorneys see me with a mental self-help book they will probably automatically exclude me! hahaha I have some work to do today. Or should I say I have some work to do at doing no work? Have a great day and I will join you! Mike

Well, I went on my trip and suffered no anxiety symptoms! :) I was afraid mostly of the traffic as driving in a strange place sometimes causes me stress but I was OK even though the place I went is quite a town traffic wise. Right now my life is about back to normal. The only thing happening to me is the sweats from the Effexor and having to remember to take a pill every morning, Other than that I am doing quite well. I am not going to stop any of my coping methods however. Even though I am not feeling the anxiety any more the methods I developed seem to work as a general "life enhancer". I have a better attitude and am much more tolerant of things. The tools I use to fight the anxiety have actually improved my outlook on life to such a degree that I would recommend them to people that do not even suffer anxiety symptoms. I will continue my M&M's (meditation and medication) and beat this thing for good! Everyone have a great day today. Mike
