Strange one being with non smokers

18 years ago 0 583 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hey BonBon, I have not had that experance yet. However when I did do what I did, when I was around non-smokers. Most of the time I would not smoke right around the. I would wait until they left, or I was off by my self. Maybe just that dirty memory of finaly being able to get a fix. After being around nonies. Does that make sence? Grace

good stuff, I want to add. I live w/someone still smoking. Although I just quit, I have a strange confidence around him. Mostly because he stinks, and I see the enslavement. However I am going to my nonsmoking parents house on monday. And I am super nervous. Weird its like I am ok in my comfort zone, but get me out and I am CRAZY. Right now I have gotten used to being around the toker. (or the JOKER haha) So I have learned how to deal. So the challenge for me will be the non-jokers. Non of my friends are smokers, and the junkie told me the other day that I had to be around smokers to quit smoking. Thanks again everyone for your input, I am really going to STOP (as Mr. Ed says) analyze and remind myself at the exact moment that is not how I think anymore. Thanks Mr. Ed for my 2 months...woohoo. You guys have a been a great help and this might be bad to say but it's nice to know I am not the only one that has had these things happen to them. Today I had a strange thing happen. I went to look at a house with my friends (none of them smoke) and it was great, didn't even have a thought of a cigarette UNTIL we were all standing around talking and finishing up, getting ready to leave. I feel like this is so weird because they DON'T smoke and I didn't even have a thought for a cigarette the whole morning (well not a thought that I would consider worth anything)...I just felt like I wanted to get in my car and have a cigarette. Of course my conscious mind said you don't smoke but that little voice in the back of my head said but you want one. How can being around a bunch of non-smokers cause a crave like that...or was it truly a craving???? Any thoughts would be appreciated...haven't had that type of WANT for a while now and it SCARED the begeebies out of me. Thanks everyone for your responses, I think you are all right and I like saying it was a trigger and not a craving. I used to not smoke around these people BUT as soon as I left that would be the 1st thing I did. I was fine once I got going in the car but standing there and talking...it's true we do have to have patience with this and one day at a time. Maybe next time we meet it won't be so intense. Thanks again for giving me your thoughts, it helps to share and get in put and know that I am not alone in this. Have a great weekend. Bonbon, I know what you mean, it happens to me too. Sometimes I'm around smokers and I don't want to smoke ( maybe smoking secondhand smoke) and sometimes with non-smokers I think about it, I don't think It's a crave because a crave is way deeper than that, I know we can't expect this to go away after 2 month. So we will have to be patient use our coping mechanism and we'll be fine. One day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 66 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,000 Amount Saved: $264 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 19 Mins: 1 Seconds: 8

Hey BonBon, Funny I had a simular experience this past weekend. I went to my best friends baby shower, which is an hour away. I used to bring all of my friends(cigs)with me for that trip. But I did great without them. Ate sugarfree mints on the way instead. I thought everyone at the shower would be non-smokers. I was wrong there were 3 or 4 people there smoking. I did not once have the urge to ask for one,had the thought but not the urge. It looked and smelled so bad. Plus I was proud that I was not polluting my pregnant best friend. But then I faced the same trigger as you BonBon. When I was getting ready to leave. I started looking forward to a cig on the way home. And I had that same voice in the back of my head saying you dont smoke anymore. I had always ben so used to getting in my car and smoking after visiting non-smokers. Anyway I am proud of both of us for resisting. Also so thankful to have experienced support here to assure us these are just triggers. Keep up the good work Kerin My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 767 Amount Saved: $140.6 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 17 Mins: 32 Seconds: 25

I still get the sensation that I am hurrying so I can smoke a cig in the car. I don't know when that will go away. I think the truth is I am hurrying because I don't want to be there anyways but it feels like it is to smoke. I still, after two months, often have the feeling like "ok, not it's time to smoke" and I don't know if or when that will ever stop. I have that feeling anytime I go over to my moms house for sure because even when I was quit before, if I was going to slip it would be at her house. Now, she doesn't even smoke anymore, and I don't see that as an option, but I still have that sensation. I don't think of it as a crave or even a smoking thought, but it's just a sense. Hey BonBon, Next time you meet up with these friends, you'll either get that feeling again and laugh it off, or you won't even think about it. You may well get other triggers over time. Each time you get one, STOP. Analyze why you are thinking like this. When you realise what it is, the trigger will diminish. As far as I'm concerned, the smell of seaweed on a beach holiday recently did it for me. The problem that the NicoDemon has with me is that I'm getting quite good at recognising when this is happening. Congrats on your 61 days and 2 months while I'm here!!
