Misty Moon, please don't take it personnally, we all rant here at one point. Quitting smoking is hard, and everyone deals with it in his or her own way, there is no good or bad way as long as you don't smoke. I enjoy reading your posts, some have helped me a lot. I've seen you go down in the dumps, pick yourself up and find the answers. You have great stats, you're working hard at it, you've already done so much, don't let this discourage you, it's a discussion everyone is entitled to their opinion, take what's good for you and leave the rest. Rock, here's my honest opinion, withdrawal does hurt Need to smoke Irritability Insomnia Fatigue Unable to concentrate Headaches Coughing sore throat Gas and constipation Stomach aches Dry mouth Sore tongue and gums Post nasal drip Tightning in the chest. Now not everyone suffers from all of these but some of these, if you read through the posts on this site you will read about a lot of these withdrawal symptoms, you see we have to purge not only nicotine but 4000 chemicals. It's proven that men have it easier than women when quitting smoking, probably hormones (I don't know)we have to work harder at it, there's always the exceptions like a few on this site,and I'm very happy for them (praise the lord) All in all every quit is different and however you do it, as long as you do it is fine by me. You have good stats and an easy quit, be grateful and thank the lord. I don't romanticise the smoking I view it in a very negative way, I was not happy about smoking, and I wasn't happy when I couldn't smoke. I hate the smell of smokers (now that I can smell it) and I never want to go back there as I feel much better now. it was hard for me I cried, I laughed and I yelled and I cried again, but I'm still smoke free, I had so much support on this site, I would come here and post and right away someone would support me and lead me. I never felt judged and I felt free to post whatever I was dealing with at that time. So for some it's easier, for some it's harder. That's why we're here to get help because we need it. LOL, Rock, I was just reading your other post that said withdrawal doesn't hurt. I don't have withdrawal symptoms now, but I went through them a few times, everytime I went down on the patch. Yikes, Mine were just emotional ones I cried a lot....Cleansing tears releasing stress hormones, can't keep them in they're bad for you, just like smokin LOL. It's just such a controversy today, I say post if you need help and no one will judge you, this is what this site is for. I think attitude has a lot to do with it. Your up-beat personality and a strong desire to quit has made it easy for you. I try to be that way, outwardly to the people around me. However, I also have some dark moments, irrational thoughts and bad dreams. That's when I come here---to validate my feelings---because my family thinks I'm nuts when I tell them what i REALLY feel. But those dark moments don't last forever and the sun continues to rise, so I might as well make the best of it. Every cloud has a silver lining...and all those other mushy sayings. I am happy for your quit and impressed by the "cold turkey" quitters. I feel the exact same way and I've spoken to many other quitters that also feel the same way. My husband is like us as well. He quit the same day that I did Dutch. He didn't use this site, nor did he seek out information. He didn't plan or anything. He has no desire to smoke and doesn't know why he didn't do it earlier either. Many quitters that find quitting easy just don't need this site anymore or find it difficult posting where the atmosphere can be quite negative at times ... let's face us ... when we first quit we aren't the most positive, fun loving people to be around. LOL ;p Our negative attitudes, which are normal for that stage of the quit, can get to others that have moved on to a different stage, a more happier stage. Thank goodness for the old time quitters that do come back here with their positive attitudes and inspire and teach others that it can be done. You are one of those people Dutch. Just keep leading the way for others. It is appreciated. Don't ever think it isn't. Quitters that find quitting 'hard' can not understand that we find quitting 'easy'. Just like we cannot fully understand why others find it so 'hard'. Personally I think it has A LOT to do with arming ones self with knowledge and then using that info in our 'mind over matter' endeavor and by making the CHOICE to have a positive attitude. We also have to be active in overcoming this addiction, it is not going to happen 'easily' by sitting around on the couch or the computer. Cognitive therapy is also a huge help when it comes to kicking addictions. When you learn to recognize irrational thinking (junkie thinking) fast, you can combat it fast, in other words fighing a trigger BEFORE it turns into a full blown out crave. It becomes second nature with practice. You can either enjoy the journey and the labor in progress or you can drudge through it. I agree with Rusty that we all have different chemical make-ups. But I do not think that comes into play near as much as our attitudes and mind power does. Not unless you have a serious chemical imbalance or medical issue that you have to be medicated for.
