Auctionman... do not think of your quit in terms of forever. This concept is way too much to handle at this stage of your quit. It does get easier but early in the quit most of us just have to go on blind faith and believe those that went ahead of us. Know that every day you make it through with out smoking takes you closer to never feeling this way again. Also know that if you smoke, you begin the process all over again. As long as you don't light that next cigarette, you have got it made.
Take some deep breaths, drink a lot of ice water and take it five minutes at a time. Remember N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever) that is how we all quit. As long as you don't light that next cigarette you have got it made.
Kick, scream, cry, break dishes, punch a pillow, whatever it takes, just don't smoke and you will be amazed at the changes that will occur in your life. Trust me when I say it is worth everything you are feeling now. Hang on tight.
