Do we help you with your quit?

Lady, Sorry to muscle in but perhaps the question, should be ' Yes, we know you help, but tell us what you really want to know' ? Lady, Everybody here can help with my quit! Obviously, the longer the quit, the longer the experience, but the one time on this site I was nearly reduced to tears was from a new quitter who just happened to say the right thing at the right time take care Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 151 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,551 Amount Saved: 1132.5 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 7 Mins: 3 Seconds: 0

I have to answer that question with another question. How do you NOT help? The first chance I stumbled upon the SSC I was 5 hours into my quit. The first thing I did was go though the program at the left. Then I viewed the support group. The first post I read was by wendywoo, quitter of Nov/04, and Hall of Fame Nov 2005. The post is called "A Quitters Tale" and to this day remains my all time favorite post, being my first one ever. From that post I knew I had the positive attitude to quit. I looked at her meter. WOW. I was inspired. I knew there were folks in here I could plenty aspire to and count on for a healthy fun support system that would help me in my oh-so-icky-days to come following my quit date. I have done searches on you older quitters to locate what you had written about. I read them every time someone 'bumps' one up. I LOVE THOSE BUMPS!! I wish more of you would post new stuff for the present moment. I suspect though, being older in your quits, that you are busy with your lives now and are out and enjoying and LIVING now, which is to be expected and also what we are all aspiring to do here. To LIVE. Well I don't blame any of you for going on with your lives and not posting in here much anymore, but I would never have thought it for the reason that you felt you were not making a difference. You are still loved in here, and are very much alive in here, and so is what you have posted in here with those good ol' bumps coming through. I also have the impression, and I could be wrong, that you older quitters (6-12 club, VIP Club, 500 club, etc) are hanging out in your own clubs because you can probably better relate to each other being the same amount of quit time. I feel that way myself sometimes, and though I am currently on the ship I have not posted on the beach yet, though I do know and understand that these clubs are NOT exclusive and we are free to post on any of them at any time. It is kind of like my goal though, to get to the 100 days THEN I can feel free to post on the Beach thread. When I get there, not before. But that is just ME! So, with that said, I feel that perhaps the older quitters may have some of that same philosphy. Again, I could be wrong! I think if you want to post then do so. If you want to

Lady All of the quitters on the board have contributed to my ability to remain accountable and in integrity. I have kept my word and I have remained smoke free. I have been and my journey has been witnessed by others and this adds to my own personal validation. There is a three fold part to my answer and this is my "take" on how this is for me. 1. The new quitters can be in a high state of all of the stuff that comes up with a new quit, they post all their stuff here. I get to see how full the process of quitting is and get to see for sure that there is something there that I most certainly don't want to repeat. 2. The quitters that are in the same time frame as me move along the path and there is less drama, less angst and there is still a process that I can see mirrored in my quit. I can identify and relate to much of what goes on with this group. 3. The long term quitters act as an inspiration and as models for me for how I would like to be in this journey. There are several different characters and types, and knowing that everyone is different I get to choose how I want to be. So short form yes the older quitters have helped in my quit, and so has everyone else. There are those that I relate to and and those that I don't nothing personal this has only to do with me and how I relate or don't relate to the world around me. This is the same for every classification or duration or age of each quitter who posts here. I value the diversity and the ability of this board to amalgamate and be able to handle difference and do so without judgement and with support and care. I appreciate the ability for this board to remain open and inclusive and "there" for all who come here. I am glad all the "laundry" is out in the open and that all who come here gain from the common experience. Thats what groups are all about. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experience and stories, from all of you I get to gain, from the sharing of experience I get to experience and see pieces and parts of this quit that I might not have seen on my own. I will reference the beginning of this post and it is much much easier for me to keep in my integrity and keep to my commitment when I am with others or another instead of stumbling in the dark and trying to do it all o

The Oldies are needed here. You [all oldies] always seem to know what to say to help and inspire quitters on this site. If You are not here to inspire and help us, this site just may dwindle away. I so look forward to the rambling threads, inspirational threads, threads of experience, etc and alot of them come from the oldies. I may not post on all of them, but I do read all of them. oldies for being here to help us Cuddles It's better to be a non-smoker with an occasional desire for a cig than a smoker with a constant desire to quit...... I'll be frank.. No, this site has not helped me in my quit. But thats because i had already made up my mind & was 3 months 'smoke free' before i came here. Nothing here has any influence over me or my quit. But, i was then & still am on a mission. So i stumbled on this site in my initial search for knowledge, wisdom & power. This seems to be the only place that exists that makes for interesting reading & 'frank' discussion between us ex-smokers. So i keep coming back & to hopefully help others in there journey to non-smokedom. You have definately answered my question. Thank you for your responses. I feel much better now.
In my quit process I used information from those ahead of me, traveling with me and those behind me.
It is still like that for me. The newbies remind me of how horrible withdrawal was and oldies tell me it's posible to keep going. Those traveling with me are my special friends. You are absolutely right. It takes all of us and we all learn from each other. No one is more important than the others. No one is less important either. That was my question. I am very pleased with the responses here. Thank you my fellow quit family. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 378 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,576 Amount Saved: $1323 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 9 Mins: 14 Seconds: 14

I am asking a very simple question. Do the older quitters help you with your quit? Ive noticed over the past couple of months several older quitters taking a back seat here at the SSC. I have heard from older quitters that they no longer feel useful and I have also heard newbies saying that they want to see more of what the older quitters have to offer. I never could have quit without this site and am very grateful for all the help I have received and the relationships I have developed here. In my quit process I used information from those ahead of me, traveling with me and those behind me. Ive had several conversations with others about this issue and we all seem to have different views so I thought.Hey, lets just ask Do we help you with your quit?
