You are not doing anything wrong. Just don't smoke. I found day 7, 8, and 9 dangerous for me. I can tell you it is not worth smoking over. Believe I have done it and then you are faced with starting all over again. Unless you like going though withdrawal, just hang tough and don't smoke. Deep breaths, lots of water, yelling at the moon, whatever it takes. Seven days is great. Hi elaine, I was out for lunch today and saw people smoking on corners and in cars and I thought wouldn't it be nice to have just one more cig (and maybe I'll get back on track tomorrow). I don't know if I learned it here on in my travels, but somehow, I was able to change my focus to the fact that JUST FOR ME I have two choices 1.) to be sucked back into a life of powerless smoking; smoking when I don't even want to; hating myself the entire time; living in constant fear whether I'm going to finally pay the price with a stroke or heart attack, or 2.) being completely free of the bondage of smoking and not having to worry about any of that stuff. For today, I made the second choice, and it was OK because I knew I wan't alone in making that choice. And, there are so many others out there who wake up and don't even think about a cigarette during their day, and I want to be one of them. Elaine, I know it may feel like your doing the immpossible, but that is where your going to have to pull from your gut if you really want a successful quit. Chew on some staws and remind yourself of why you want to quit. Its not easy and you will feel as though the nicodemon is stronger that your will, but guess again, YOU ARE STRONGER THAN THE NICODEMON. Everytime your brain says you cant get through this reverse those thoughts and tell yourself you will get through this. The craze feelings are only temporary and they will pass. Reassure yourself each surge and committ to positive self talk, heck scream if you have to run in place do whatever is positive to help you get through the moment. When you conquer each craving you will feel good that you do! Hang in there, it can be tough but weve all been there and others are right there with you, your not alone. YOU CAN WIN! YOUR A WINNER! Hi Elaine - Don't look at the clock! Find something else to do with your time in the car - turn the radio up really loud and sing at the top of your voice! Get some twizzlers and go to town on them! Look around at people in the different cars and make up funny stories about them and if they are smoking - think something bad about them! Do anything but think about smoking! You are in a first week of the best week of your life. You are doing the most wonderful thing that you can ever do for yourself. We here are living proof that we humans can be this addiction! and I am sure that you can do it too! Stay Strong - and hang on for the ride of your life! Elaine... Take one step at a time. Don't think of your quit in terms of forever. Just be quit for the next five minutes. Five minutes at a time. You can do that! Take some really deep breaths. It really does help. What are you doing to distract yourself? Read a book, take a shower, kick, scream, cry, break dishes, do a jig saw puzzle...whatever it takes just don't smoke! As long as you don't light that next cigarette you have got it made and you will survive! Remember: Every day is one day closer to never feeling this way again. Here is another thought for you...... When I smoked, I wanted a cigarette all the time, Now that I don't, I only want one some of the time. I hope this helps. Hang in there. We have been there and know what you are going through. elaine, Where are your coping mechanisms? Do you a have goal you can strive for? Take the time to plan some action against these craves.
