Last night we had a major storm and at 9:10 PM the power went out. This is the first long-term nighttime power failure Ive experienced since I quit. In the past when wed lose power at night Becky and I would sit out on the back porch and Id smoke like a chimney just to pass the time. That association was still firmly intact.
About 10:30 a major crave descended upon me. It was the worst Ive had since last August. I thought nibbling might help, but there was nothing in the house I wanted. Thought of making a store run for some nuts, but I honestly, I didnt trust myself with going to the store (first time ever!). I actually thought of just taking my drivers license and $4 (cant buy a pack for $4, no credit card, etc).
Then Becky, bless her heart, said something (she has a nack for that) that triggered the thought, I need a dopamine rush! So I grabbed my MP3 player, pulled the muffling towels off the drums, and at 10:30 at night (tough s***, neighbors!) I cut loose to Born in the USA. That killed it, dead, no residue, not even the lightest urge.
In my 1 year ramble I suggested the possibility of using music as a reward/coping mechanism. Well, last night I found out that, for me, it works very well. And so far I havent heard a word from the neighbors. :)
Keep up the good quits, everyone. ;)
