Stay focused on YOUR quit. It's going to be tough, but let him go about his business. You know he's kidding himself (A LOT OF JUNKIE THINKING GOING ON!) I do feel bad for you, but truthfully there is nothing you can do but keep moving foward one step at a time, day by day. Remember why you quit and keep that top of mind. CobenFan

Dear chickstarr, I know exactly the way you feel. My hubby and I quit together, but he only lasted 3 weeks. At first, I didn't realize what he was doing, as he still said he was quit too. But one here, and one there......... He bought a box of cloves, and made himself believe that it was not smoking. Then he went to small cigars. He is now fully inhaling the cigars. He doesn't say he is quit anymore, but he also does not believe he is back to where he started. I find it very difficult to be kind to his addiction. For some reason, it bothers me so much. I walk around the house with a air freshner and spray it all over after he has come inside from smoking in the garage. His ashtray odor is sickening......... I do not tell him how it bothers me though. I'm sure he is not happy with himself, and it is not right for me to nag him. They will quit on their own terms. I know that I will be his role model for quitting again. Just to show him that it can be done, and it doesn't have to be all that painful.......... I keep the positive side and outlook of my quit verbal. Making sure he hears how wonderful I feel. Anyhow, this is thread I posted when I realized he was a smoker again. Betrayed I don't know what else to say, except do not let his smoking be an excuse for you to do it. Own up to your own quit. Believe in your quit. Stand strong, and let him see you shine. He will quit on his own time. ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 103 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,104 Amount Saved: $336.81 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 7 Mins: 50 Seconds: 58

Hi chickstarr - He smokes cuz he is an addict, pure and simple... Keep focused on you and on your Quit as it will now be more challenging since he has lost his Quit. One day at a time. And no, he has not quit, explain to him that when we smoke we are not Quit :) We are here to support you, protect your Quit w/everything you have, chickstarr - don't let it get hurt. Chickstar Your quit is YOUR quit, is YOUR quit, is YOUR quit, is YOUR quit, is YOUR quit. Your husband's quit is HIS quit, is HIS quit, is HIS quit, is HIS quit. You cannot confuse the two or neither of you will succeed here. You need to focus on your quit. We are all addicts. Be strong and don't let his giving up tempt you to the point that you give up as well. Not only CAN you do this, you ARE doing it. Focus on five minutes at a time. Your reasons for quitting are still the same and nothing has changed here. Hang in there. Why is it usually the man that wimps out first? We are such a bunch of wusses, aren't we? Or maybe it's this male ego thing we have going on that keeps us from looking to others for support like the women can do. We certainly can't be asking for help; something might fall off if we did. :8o: So we sneak one here and there and call ourselves still quit. After all, we can convince ourselves so why can't you? That NOPE stuff is for sissies. We're men, we're in control, we're strong, we can handle it. {**deep breath, Shevie**} Sometimes members of my gender irritate the hell out of me. Alison, your quit is yours. Protect it as if your life depends on it. It does. If your hubby allows himself to fall victim to the addiction's junkie lies, there's really nothing you can do about it. Don't pressure him, it will just make it worse. Just hold on to your quit and hopefully he will eventually see the light. Congratulations on 30 days. You are doing great! :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 389 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,781 Amount Saved: $1478.2 Life Gained: Days: 72 Hrs: 12 Mins: 48 Seconds: 30

Wow, imagine that, you're tougher than your husband. Way back in my quit my wife asked me if I was tough enough to quit. I said I was. I never forgot that statement from her. Was I tough enough.... I'm 6'1" tall I weight about 240 and I like to think I am pretty tough. When the nicodemon brought me to my knees I remembered my wife asking me... Are you tough enough? I was... Your hubby quit with you but has started again. Is he using this board and other devices to assist in his quit? It's a multifaceted thing you know. I wish you luck. Hang in there. My husband smokes and always will -- that's just to let you know that you can indeed quit with a smoker around. It makes it a little tough but you just put on your stubborn face and refuse to play with the junkie. When you go to Ala-Non or any kind of support group for the family members of addicts, they always tell you that the person's addiction is not your business. Not your job to clean up after. Not your job to make excuses for. Your job is to take care of your own life.
