Smoke Time

18 years ago 0 607 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My attitude sucks again. Its that time of evening and both my husband and I are now having trouble with our quit. We made an excuse to go to the grocery store for stuff and stood at the cig counter staring. We probably looked hilarious or like crazed people cause I swear I started drooling (how pathetic). It took every single ounce of mentality that I have left. These nicodemons sure are ticking me off cause I feel like i'm getting weaker and weaker because each time I feel like I get closer and closer to actually breaking my own promise to myself. My husband said this was my battle that I must win for myself and that he cant stand in my way from making a mistake or not (he is working on his quit also). I'm at the point I have to take it one second at a time agian. I used to be able to go one day at a time. I know the nicotine is out of my system (72 to 96 hours) and my "spaced out" and dizziness has really gotten better. WHY the mind games? WWhy the anger ever once in a while? why the emotional wreck other moments? AND WHY COULDNT THIS STUFF BE LABELED ILLEGAL????? I didn't get to read anyone's response last night because I literally had to lock myself in my bedroom. That was easy to do since I've never smoked in my house anyways due to my youngest being so sick because of second hand smoke (my mother's). I have a hole in the wall to fix but its cheaper on my health than if I was to pick up that one lousy stinking cig. I guess I'm lost for words because I've also drained myself mentally. I really do hate those moments  I just felt so out of it last night like I had totally forgotten why I took this path in the first place. I re-read my reason but for some reason last night it wasnt being obsorbed in my thought process. CobenFan, you are still right, I woke up this morning and yes, my car still needs fixed. Having a smoke wouldn't have changed it and I now want to scream to every one thinking of smoking, DONT DO IT. DONT EVER TAKE THAT FIRST PUFF. Dang things aught to be considered illegal. I keep watching my "Cigarettes Not Smoked" meter going and going and honestly I never realized how much I smoked. in 9 days I smoked over 200 cigs. Pathetic. My husband gave me a gift this morning for holding out on making a mistake last night. He said tomorrow (my 10th day) he is taking me out to buy an entire outfit (woohoo) including shoes. If you knew me real well, I loveeeeeeeeeee clothes. Also, he and I have started planning a 6 month reward so that way we have a reminder to keep our heads up high and out of the smoke. I'm actually loving the fact that I wont be tempted as much in restaurants or bars here in Colorado because our smoking ordinance starts July 1st (part of Colorado already does this, but Littleton finally joins our way of thinking) :p It wont be as easy to access that puff a person feels they need. I'm scared about the weekend as my mom still smokes and it does worry me. I'm not going to deny that. But I also know I can't avoid it either since its my dad's day on Sunday. Thanks for all the support. I'm actually going to direct my mental tiredness (probably not even a word but at this point who cares) to working for the first time in 9 days (well, fully working). Love all you who have continued to give me so much emotional support and the fact you would kick my toosh if I did smoke. S

why at times it goes so dang easy and then BOOM it hits like a ton of bricks. UGHHHHHHHhhhhhh I just want to screem. Thank God non of my family is home right now cause I've already yelled enough. I just can't shake it at all. I'm trying and I well, I know I dont have the money for smokes cause I just found out I have to replace my clutch and that's like $800 cause its a dang Saturn (never buy one too expensive to fix) and oh Lord this jut sucks. Breaking Free, you hit that perfectly on the bullseye. Ever since I started my quit, I've been saying cigs should be considered an illegal drug because with the withdrawals I've had, it falls right along a heroin addict (well from what I've read about heroin addicts). I've had so far 2 days (sunday and today) of pretty positive attitude. Its hard but I'm doing it. Kim If you smoked, your car would still need fixing. We all know smoking does not make things better. When things get ultra crapola, go to bed early - it keep you out of trouble. You have made it through hell week - stay strong. You have to be tough to beat this and YOU ARE! Sip some water, breathe deeply and close your eyes. Visualize a soothing place and time. Do whatever it takes, JUST DON'T SMOKE!!!! Hi Cheermom - I'm so sorry that you are having such a rough time...you probably already know that 99% of us here went through the exact same thing. I couldn't even go to the store for about 3 weeks so you are doing great if you went just after 8 days and didn't buy any! Congrats!!! You did an awesome thing for yourself. I have to advert my eyes from the cig counter even now at 118 days. But I did have to chuckle at the thought of you drooling...I know that I would have done the same. I got a swipe card from a unmanned gas station so I wouldn't have to go into the jiffy. But for whatever this is worth - it does get better. The cravings calm down after a while - but I have to say don't completely go away - darn it all! You will begin to think like a non-smoker - smoking will stink really bad to you - and hopefully you will become one of those "obnoxious non smokers" as my smoking husband puts it. You can do this - I know that you are a strong woman and can do this for yourself, your children and maybe even become a wonderful example for your mom and she can quit as well. Know that we are here for you...this site is the best virtual punching bag that I know of. Cry, Scream, Vent - that's what we are here for. I know where you are comming from. It got so bad one night that I locked myself in the bathroom with candles and music and just stayed in the bathtub for 2 hours (occasionally reheating the water). You hold on you can get through this. Crying is allowed. Cheryl [font=georgia][size=4][color=navy]No Joking, I'm Still Not Smoking! I know cheermom. Sometimes it is so overwhelming. The cravings, the restlessness, the CONTINUAL thoughts of smoking. It is exhausting. But, what can we do??? We have to go through this if we want to be free from this horrible addiction. Do you read? A good novel can take your mind off anything (just about, anyway). A hot bath is very good. Do you have any aromatheraphy? Breathe the scent in deeply. Do you need to do your toenails? file your fingernails? Put lotion on your legs? Do something to make yourself feel a little better. Hang in there girl. I feel it too. But, you know what? SMOKING SUCKS! You know it, I know it. We want to be free. Don't smoke.
