A FUNNY THING

I don't read that part of the paper, either. If anyone important to me died I'd already know about it, so why rub my nose in mortality? You and your mentor are right on target, Duffis. As long as one continues to try, there has been no failure. Who brought grandad the paper? Seriously - all good points about failure. Learning to walk is simply getting up one more time than you fall down right? A funny thing happened this morning on the way to the forum. First my toga got caught in a rose bush, I almost fell on my butt and my trusted companion, JR, decided my foot was as good as any tree and let me have it. Of course he was just getting my attention as I was trying to read the paper and walk him. Not a good morning at all, everyone in the Obits was younger than me (this sucks) and my stocks continue to decline. What does all this have to do with not smoking you ask; good question. It is called perception to the facts of life. The SSC is so rich in opinions and also extremely rich in talented people who in addition to going through the hell of quitting smoking are trying their best to express themselves to the forum. Some are quite eloquent and others stumble over their choice of words and dont quite ex press themselves the way they wanted. Criticism is abundant as everyone has an opinion, no two exactly alike. There are discussions on slips, cravings, withdrawals, NRT vs. CT, and the I have failed again for the 10 millionth time. No matter the topic there is going to be quite a few posts, yea, nay and what the hell. So here we are this morning, how is your day going to be. My favorite topic is now the subject of FAILURE. What is FAILURE? First off I believe we should eliminate the word from our vocabulary. Let us change the word to DELAYED SUCCESS and then no one would be a failure unless they failed. Once again my mentor Max has come through for me on the subject of WINNING. Let us look at this: Success is connected with continuous action. It's largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go. You're not finished when you're defeated, you're only finished when you quit. In fact, there's only one way you can fail, and that's to stop trying. Continuous effort, persistence and determination will be necessary for you to succeed. The odds are in your favor if you keep trying. You can have a fresh start any time you choose, for "failure" is not in the falling down, but in the staying down. It's not over until it's over. If you've got the courage to stick it out, you'll attain your goal. Winning isn't everything, but wanting to, is. If at first you don't succeed, try, try, and try again.

LOL for Pens grandfathers ritual! Bob, A great way to start the day. Thanks. What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. Not cravin', never cavin'. Does all that mean you have to look up to get up when down? Also, not only are the obits listing younger folks, they seem to all be dieing in alphabetical order. As one with 'A' for first letter of last name, I am concerned. Thanks for taking the time to write the above. This FAILURE thing you speak about is worthy of mention indeed. Some here seem to enjoy making a game of the restarts. When they get serious about it they will quit for good. The obituary page was always the first part of the paper that my grandfather read in the morning and if he wasn't listed, he got up!!! Thanks Duffis for more enlightenment! Penitent d764

Duffis, Just a suggestion.. Have yourself or Pete copy all your posts and put them in a scrap book. They are full of meaning and life teaching and your grandchildren would love to read them! This is so eloquent and true! Excellent post! Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
