I found this article to be very helpful in telling me what to expect and what I needed to do. Hope it helps you too.
I quit smoking 7 months ago. I do feel better, and I dont struggle all of the time now, but I still have days where I find myself missing my cigarettes and wishing I could have just one now and then. Sometimes the urge to smoke is intense, and it depresses me. I wonder if Ill ever be free of this habit! Will I miss smoking forever? Answer: Think for a moment of your life as a tightly woven piece of fabric. Each thread represents the events and experiences youve had. And running alongside all of the many "life" threads are threads of a finer gauge. So fine in fact, theyre impossible to see with the naked eye. Those threads are your smoking habit, and theyve become so interwoven in the fabric of your life, you find you cant do anything without thinking about how smoking will fit into it. The associations that we build up over a lifetime between the activities in our lives and smoking are very closely knit. Once you quit smoking, your job becomes one of unraveling those smoking threads, or associations, one by one. How does that happen? And how long does it take? Practice Makes Perfect Recovery from this addiction is a process of gradual release over time. Every smoke free day you complete is teaching you how to live your life without cigarettes. Bit by bit, youre reprogramming your responses to the daily events that trigger the urge to smoke. The more practice you get, the less urges will plague you. Over the course of your first smoke free year, you'll encounter most of the events and situations in your daily life that you associate with smoking. Some smoking triggers are seasonal in nature and can create strong urges to smoke months into your quit. For instance, if you quit smoking during the winter and you're an avid gardener, you could find yourself craving a smoke break the first time you're out digging in the dirt the following Spring. It may hit you with an intensity you haven't felt in months. Don't worry! Once you make your way through the trigger smoke free, you'll move on with ease. The first year is all about firsts...experiencing the many daily events in your life smoke free for the first time. And, it's

Hi Tony, I know you are doing better today, but I just wanted to write something herethat popped out at me. You said she was your world.. ect. Ok so I was thinking, hmm that isn't healthy... see you have to be your world before you can really be in a healthy relationship. You have to be able to stand on your own two feet alone and strong, then you will have real love to give. Does this make sense? I just felt like you were given your power away. Keep that, it's yours. You are powerful with being you... then it goes from there. I think that cigs are the same, we give our power to them. Every smoke we have we are burying a feeling... we don't want to hurt, so we bury it in something... smokers smoke it away. If we have no smoke, we are faced with dealing with it... I hope I made some sort of sense. I am saying, you do not need someone or make you something. You are something first. Hi bio, Good for you for getting right back at your quit. Change your mind, change your life...awesome mantra! It is so hard in the beginning; but it is doable. Your girlfriend was right about smoking. Make sure that you are doing this quit for yourself and not because of anything that your gf believes.; or in hopes that she may change her mind about dating you if she finds out that you quit smoking. All will be well. Be true to yourself and stay smoke free. You are doing great. Stay tough My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 973 Amount Saved: $135 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 17 Mins: 12 Seconds: 38

Hi all,I'm sad to say that caved in and RELAPSED.Such an ugly word but its th truth.Oh I can say I slipped or something like that. That demon got the best of me today.I had to look in the mirror and come face to face with this d**** disease of ADDICTION and what triggered it for me.The truth of the matter was I felt so empty inside not only with losing a deadly fiend not friend just to clarify. But I was dealing with a loss of a loved one,I'm sorry that I'm being so mallowdramatic. My GF left me exactly one month ago.A woman that means the world to me.She was my life line. She gave me direction in my life in more ways than one.She gave me inspiration and was my mentor even though she doesn't know it.I was truly missing her and I was to fill those Empty Spaces.I know that I need to continue working on my coping skills.I really dont have anybody to talk with about the emptiness of both of the things that were I thought to be important.Wow!I'm still having junkie thoughts.Well, one is important to me.I would love to be able to tell her that my recory is strong and well on its way.I'm glad that I made this far without her.My will and determination is strong.Aparently not as strong as I would like it to be.So I am going to brush myself off and start over again by not beating up myself over this.I just need some input on how to overcome the emotional losses. How to fill those empty spaces in a positve way without junkie thinking.Thank Ya'll for listening,Tony p.s.I'll change my Quit meter asap My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 251 Amount Saved: $74 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 11 Mins: 34 Seconds: 21

Thank ya'll so much,I've gotten so much out of ya'll.I really understand what I have to do now. That last line from breaking free struck home "If You Want to Change Your Life, Change Your Mind".WOW!I needed to hear that.I've been waiting for my life to change for the better,But havent put to much time & energy into it.This disease will not kill me if I let it.As cunning & baffling as it may be.My GF once said her beliefs about smoking is that its evil, because it destroy lives be it by physical death or spiritual death.whether its 1st hand or 2nd hand smoke it effects everyone period. Was she ever right. So now I'm going to approach this from the inside/out.I dont the funds to go to counseling but I will go to a 12 step program and get a sponsor+network of people tp talk to when needed. Thank once again,Tony
