Tired Low and Near Bottom

my heart goes out to you rdman. Cravings suck. I still like the smell of cigs when someone is smoking; but I HATE the smell of cigs on a person after they have finished one. It really smells bad. I also still notice smokers; but I am training my brain to think "thank god that is not me" or "gosh, I used to poison myself like that", or "they still have the horrible addiction and need a fix". I am learning not to envy people because they can still smoke and I have chosen not to. We are the lucky ones. We are drowning the addiction. Keep going. You will feel better. RDMan, Perspective is everything. When we smoked we never noticed smokers because we were one of them. We certainly couldn't smell the smoke because our sense of smell was shot. But now look at us? We are THE MAJORITY now. Non Smokers! Now we are finely tuned to all that is around us. Yes, we see the smokers and now we can smell the stench their addiction leaves behind. So what? Are you jealous? Are you envious? Does it "take your breath away"? You are coming up on 5 months quit! Almost 3,000 sickarettes not smoked!!! Be very proud of that! If you stopped and interviewed all of the people you see smoking in a given day, I would estimate that well over 80% wished they were quit like you and had your stats! The other 20% are too locked into their addiction to see that they are killing themselves. (Actually a university did a study like this and the numbers are about right) You have probably seen posts about the importance of the 1 year mark. Being quit for all four seasons, etc. There is much to be said for that. I believe that the cycle needs to be completed. We don't call a year a "year" until the earth has circled the sun for 360 degrees. Until that time comes quitters are still going through phases. But as surly as the earth does complete it's rotation, you will complete yours and start a new cycle, totally free from the bonds of your addiction. And don't forget that as the earth makes its rotation it passes throught the seasons, and each season brings it's storms. You are in a storm right now, but it will pass. They all pass. The wind blows the skies clear and all is calm again. You will have that calmness once again. Time, Phillip, time. So hold your head up proudly and continue to march. You will pass this test, I have no doubt. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart. Hang in there, Phillip. I know this is hard, and I understand how witnessing the anguish here is depressing. But look beyond the surface of the posts and realize that the people who are posting are doing so because they are not smoking. They are posting instead of smoking. They are working through it all and learning to live life without the crutch or pacifier of nicotine. Some have it better, some have it worse, but we are all on the same path, fighting the same fight. Look at how far you have come, Phillip. 145 days now. Do you have any idea how few people actually get as far as you? I know it appears commonplace on the SSC, but that's a tribute to the level of support available here. If you take all smokers everywhere, 145 days is a rare and wonderous accomplishment. Try to isolate yourself from your feelings for a bit, and look at yourself through the eyes of others. See the accomplishment, the determination, and the commitment they see. I believe what you see will make you proud. Don't feel bad about not being positive. I was VERY depressed about this time in my quit. I wondered if I would EVER be me again - ever be happy, ever ever feel it was really worth it. This is the place to whine and cry and let it all hang out. It will pass. Can't say when, but it will. In the meantime, just take it one blind miserable step at a time and believe us that have been before you. This will be soo worth it...and one day you will wonder what in the heck took you so long. Hugs. RD Man - It sucks being human huh? Too bad we can't just switch stuff on and off like we want to. Too bad we have human frailties that keep us working hard at what we want to become. Or is it? I'm not far behind you in my quit. The other day my wife said to me, "you seem to be handling stress a lot better than you ever have". I thought about it a bit. I think I'm handling stress better because I'm using the same coping mechanisms for quitting in day to day situations, without even realizing it. I slow myself down, I self talk, I let myself know it'll work out, I deal with the parts I can deal with, i let the others take care of themseleves. I think you're going through more than a quit. Your going through a lifestyle change. For the better. It sure is not easy and I will say this to you RD Man... Based on the posts I've read form you, you have strength of character. You are a determined individual who's not afraid to look at themselves and make changes where needed. That says a lot about you - and you should be very proud of yourself. Hang in there RD Man - we are here when you need us. Hi RD Man! Remember when the nicodemon sits on your shoulder, knock him off. I try to remember that even if I smoke a cigarette, whatever is wrong will not get better. Some periods in our lives are not a bed of roses. Whether we smoke or dont smoke, the bad times will still come. You sound exhausted. Take some time. Go see a psychologist and whine for awhile you might be surprised how much it helps. Go fishing or to the beach or just to the park and sit in the sun. You CAN pull yourself out of a depressive streak. Get a book on self healing through acupressure. If venting here helps, vent away. Take a good look at your life and figure out whats bothering you. Whatever it is, get rid of it or make a plan to change it. Sometimes just writing it all down helps. Hang in there, were here for you. Not cravin', never cavin'. *grins* ack! The canning this season brought on some major craves for me...don't speak of making jam! I am so done for now! I hope next year the association between preserving food and smoking is broken for good! *lol* (I made strawberry, peach and strawberry-fig jam this year). But if that works for you...maybe you ought to go buy the supplies! RDman, You are okay. Some of us just have to tough it out longer thatn others, or maybe it's just that most people don't know how to verbalize the anguish when it's still going on. It's only been recently that I've had days when I don't think of a smoke, but I rarely say anything because I got tired of being told it was all in my attitude. Ya know? It gets better. Your coping skills get more automatic. Someday you will wake up and see clear sky! ~bugg huggs~ My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 481 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,544 Amount Saved: $3174.6 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 22 Mins: 43 Seconds: 50
