Hello 4my2girls - It's time to get yourself grounded.... When we are grounded we take one thing at a time, we are focused and we are empowered... What others do is what others do, dear one... Pay close attention to *you*... to your commitments to *you*... Let what others do go... that's about them, not about you. The depression - it's time to ask for what you need. It's time to take good, loving care of yourself. It takes a great deal of courage to ask for what you need, friend. Take some time to get yourself grounded... Breathe - calm your mind, and get focused on YOU and what's important. Don't allow the junkie thinking to propel you... Take the time to learn to recognize your voice and the junkie's voice... they are NOT the same, 4my2girls... IM me on the SSC messenger for extra support (or IM Cobenfan, PrincessC... ) You can do this - you know what to do! Blessings and Light! Welcome back 4my2girls, and congratulations on 6 months smokefree. Sorry that you are having a tough time right now but you have been given a lot of good advice here. Go back to your dr. and ask for help. What's that saying "if mama ain't happy then no one is" When I have a bad day-the fence is falling down and the car needs an expensive timing belt- I give myself 10 minutes for a pity party and then get busy with something else. I don't live near the ocean but I thought smoking was banned on all beaches in California. You celebrated six months? For me rewards, celebration and honouring what it is that I have created for myself, this new life, has been a huge part of staying quit. Sounds like it is time that you started giving yourself credit for the wonderful loving and very giving act that you are giving yourself by not smoking. You will actually be there for your 2 girls. You are absolutely worth everything that you have put into this quit and into your family and into your life. You can do this. Please do check out the link that Casey put in her post. The site is very helpful. 4my2girls... Don't think you are alone. I know that by the time most people reach that six month mark, they are going on with life as a non-smoker, seem to have gotten a handle on things and are in control. At the six month point of my quit I was more along the lines that you are now. It wasn't until the six month point that everything finally started coming together for me. I battled the depression and the loneliness that my quit brought with it. My cigarette truly was my best friend and I had a hard time letting go. I didn't have any issues with depression (that I'm aware of) until I quit smoking. I've taken medication since quitting and really don't think it helps much. Learning to deal with emotions without the crutch is the hardest part of the quit. I still have moments that I wonder if going back to smoking would take away all the emotions that I now I have to cope with. Some how I don't think it would work as it use to. Keep putting one foot in front of the other because you are progressing along the quit journey to freedom. Not everyone has an easy time at it so don't think you are different than everyone else because you are not. Constantly fill your mind with positive sayings, inspirational reading, and vent away at friends or here on these boards when you need to. That is what worked for me. Just don't smoke because it will not help a thing. You have a great quit going and you should be proud of yourself. Congratulations! Post whenever you need us. We are here for you. 4mygirls great name! Remember this, those smoking mothers are looking at you and thinking, WOW, she quit smoking. I wish that i could quit. Every smoker wants to be a non smoker. Don't go back down that road..it ends in disaster. YOu have a GREAT quit going 4 your girls, and #1 for yourself. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi, 4my2girls. Welcome back and congratulations on 6 smoke-free months. #1 - I've experienced the sudden increase in smokers, too. When I smoked, everyone around me didn't. I'd worry when I stopped at a light and the wind would carry my smoke over to another car. The only cigarette in 30 cars was mine. The I quit and smokers are all over the place, a dime a dozen. Trust me, the only thing that has changed (other than your quitting) is your perception of your environment. #2 - Next party, invite only your daughter's friends? Just a thought. Smoking mothers. My parents smoked. The second-hand smoke I grew up with primed me for nicotine addiction. Thanks, Mom & Dad. They can't hear me, they've both been taken by smoking related diseases. Just because your daughter's new friend's mom smokes is no reason you should start again. If it bothers her, try to lead her into her own quit. Your daughter is more important than that. (not fussing, just pointing out the obvious :)) #3 - From what I've seen here and other quit boards, it seems that no matter what you do you are going to gain during the first six months. Oh, yeah, there's the few rule-breakers, but they're the exception. So, you gain the first six months, then your body finally gets adjusted to the whack the loss of nicotine gave it and the exercise and proper diet start to kick in and the pounds start coming off. Give it a bit more time. #4 - A lot of smokers seem to have used nicotine to medicate light depression. Go to your doctor and fess up. If you have to, hang a sign around your neck that says "No matter what I say, I'm here for depression." Accomplishing 6 months of abstenence from what is considered to be the strongest of all addicting drugs is no small feat. You have done wonders with your life already. Let everyone around you fight. That's their problem. You stand tall and proud because you have control over yourself. BTW, you did exactly the right thing by coming here. I hope we've been a bit of help for you. :) Keep up the good quit, 4my2girls. 4my2girls, hope you are feeling stronger today. I can't really add anything to all the good advice you've had here but I will say a couple of things, as I'm only a couple of weeks behind you in my quit. I too have put on quite a bit of weight and despite all my hard work it will not shift but I know it will eventually so I'm just slogging on. I too suffer from depression but I did when I smoked and I know that I will still get panic attacks etc even if I start again, I did before and I do now so nothing will change there. I see people smoking around me (funny how they multiply when you've quit when you were the only one left in the whole world while you smoked) and sometimes feel the urge to rip the cigarette out of their hand and finish it for them. I resist. I know that will wear off one day and the urge is nowhere near as strong as it was a few months ago. As far as I can see you are under a lot of stress right now and you need to take steps to alleviate it where you can. You've come too far to go back to square 1 and somewhere down the line you'd only have to go through it all again. The only thing that would change if you started smoking again is that you'd have the extra problem of smoking and all that entails. Please follow the advice you've been given by everyone, grit your teeth and plod on. Every day gets a tiny bit easier although we don't realise it at the time - that is what keeps me going, I know I won't always feel like this. Hugs, Linda :confuse:

4my2girls, This post was written by someone that had just went back to smoking. For some reason her honesty and anguish at having gone back really hit me and it always sticks with me. I hope this gives a very real look at what relapsing will do.
