I went through a period of anxiety attacks in my life. I went to counseling for it and that helped and I didn't end up taking any medication for it.
But the main thing that I learned and am still learning about is that diet and excersize are probably the single biggest key to stopping anxiety attacks for me. In order of importance, for me, what I eat is number one in importance, then the excersize.
I read a book called "potatoes not prozac" and it talks a lot about the fact that if you eat too many "quick calories" such as would be found in sugar or white flour, it sets up a bad brain chemistry cycle. Caffeine and nicoteine both make this even worse. Stressful situations make it worse, too, of course.
I am far from a paragon of good nutrition, but if you eat a lot of quick calories and are a caffeine fiend like I am known to be, your body just eventually loses its robustness and crashes.
Read the book, though. I think our tendency is to think that all we need is some sort of pill or something but in my own experience, eating and drinking the right stuff is far better than any pill.
Obviously, my opinion, and I'm no doctor (disclaimer, disclaimer, disclaimer... yada yada yada)
Take care, post often,
The QM
