What saved your quit?

16 years ago 0 1306 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
What has kept me quit today is the realization that until I logged on here, I have not thought about smoking today. And it has been one heck of a day - my first 2 staff meetings as a new manager, and a very boring seminar. Stress and boredom - 2 big triggers. I have always told myself that 'it will get better', and now I can honestly believe that is going to finally happen. Keep 0n Going. There is no going back. I can't say that I have been close to losing my quit and that could be because I'm still fairly new at this and I may end up having cravings later on but for now I am confident that I will never smoke cigarettes again. Bump - cuz I think this is a wonderful PMA thread! For me it's been that thought that I can choose to be happy or unhappy in my quit, and I learned that here. I take a deep breath and choose not to smoke, right now, this minute. Then the thoughts go away, and sometimes now, they go away for days at a time. Windy saved me one night on the IM. KiwiKeith has saved my quit several times. My kids would kill me. When I get a pretty bad crave, I make a deal with my inner junkie. I give myself permission to smoke only after I have checked in with someone here at SSC. Guess what happens? Either I get online and somebody talks sense into me, or it takes me so long to get to it that the junkie in me gives up and slinks away. The other things I do include thinking about how doggone hard it was to get to this point and really, really not wanting to go through it again; remembering, as fully as I can, the last cigarette I smoked, which made me feel sick and weak and disgusted with myself and ashamed and like I wanted to throw up; and imagining a fully smoke-free me, strong enough to pull trees up by the roots, handsome enough to make the young girls swoon. For me it was thinking that i've made it 80 days and if I just have one I will break this great streak and would have to go through hell week and all that horrible stuff all over again... Sure I get cravings and even some bad ones sometimes but I will not give in and become a smoker again I like living a healthy life and its a ton better then having to worry about dying of lung cancer at a young age :)
