18 days!!!!!! WOW - u r nearly thru the worst 3 weeks. That is FANASTIC. Smile as you tell yourself that. Remind yourself why you wanted to quit. Did you write down the reasons somewhere? Read it now - and really feel and remember how you felt when you were gearing up to this quit. And remind yourself you have done it. My craves aren't what they once were but when they were really, really bad, I would do what I always used to do when having a smoke. Go out into the garden and pretend to light up my dummy cigarette. And "smoke" it just as I used to. Are you using NRT? I'd pop a lozenge into my mouth at the same time and just tell myself it would all pass. How about a nice warm, soothing bubble bath as you plan a big treat for yourself when you get through the full 3 weeks? Stay strong. Thinking of you here in bonny, sunny Scotland. sunny, really windy and i'm desperate guys! The weekend is difficult no matter what.I can't be busy like all other days but i'm trying to find things to do.Washed some clothes, arranged things in the house, came here now that things are getting tougher.I just keep thinking about it.The week passed by so good with all the things that i was doing. I have to get ready in a while,to go out for lunch. With non-smokers (one guy smokes but i don't know him very well). Last night i was out as well for dinner and it didn't cross my mind. I see that when i'not busy, when i am bored..it just comes here. Last night, enjoying my evening with friends i didn't even thought about it... i'm sorry i'm talking so much.. but i'm in a bad mood in general and these cravings make things worse...... Don't dwell on the cravings, Kate, acknowlege them, take some deep breaths, and move on to something else. I'm sorry its a tough day. My worst times were at night, I spent a lot of nites going to bed at 8pm, just so I didn't think about it. How about calling a nonsmoking friend for company today? Kate, You've already gotten some great advice! Keep utilizing your coping mechanisms such as gum, water... then move on. See this as an opportunity to try something new, take up a hobby or learn something new. Keep up with your rewards. Whenever cravings are overcome or you acheive another smoke free day, reward yourself for working hard. Knowing how you'll reward yourself before the day is through may motivate you to keep fighting cravings in the hopes of getting something better. We are proud of you for continuing to persevere! Stay strong. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Kate Keep on doing and finding what works for you. Rewards are so important, in the beginning every time I craved I would reward and that really helped. I would also post here often and I would write in a journal, that journal is full of all kinds of stuff, drawings and poems and it held a whole world for me and really helped me pass my time. This will get better, I know you have to hear that again, and it does really change and get much easier and better. Give yourself time and do this one piece at a time. Know that you are creating a very loving caring and healthy intervention in your life. Glad to hear from you. Kate, In the beginning the weekends drove me insane. I spent most of them in tears and was ready to go back to work on Monday because it was just easier than being home. I think that is why the weekend promise is so important. Make the committment and stick to it. Not easy in the beginning. Try to occupy your mind as much as possible. Sometimes you have to force yourself to do something different. For me, I didn't know what to do. We use to spend a lot of time smoking and now that space will be filled with other activities. I went to a lot of movies in the beginning (no one smokes there). Go for a walk or to a park. Enjoy being able to smell the trees and flowers. OR- just jump in bed, throw the covers over you head and cry your eyes out. There were times that this was all I could do to get through the weekend. Whatever you decide to do, just don't smoke. It does get so much better. Hang in there. Post away... that is why we are here.
