120 days a rant!

All of your quotes are things I said Phillip, so I am compelled to respond or 'stick up' for myself. I guess you have too. I have never meant to single you or anyone else out in anything I have ever posted on this site. Nor can I control how people respond to what I say or assume I mean something negative toward them when I didn't. I do not think you should be like me, I am only trying to find someone like me to share my quit with ... someone who understands. You have a lot of people on this site that understand you. And you are truly the lucky one, not I. I am only stating honestly how I feel, just like you are. Different, but the same. Riverdale Man, This was a really great post and you're right everybody' quit is different which is why it's even more important for people to post different things as it may reach someone in the right way. You're also right in saying you can't just turn on positive thinking. It almost always involves realizing what your saying to yourself, stopping, taking a minute and turning what you just said to yourself to a complete 360. Not everyone is capable of being and staying positive but sometimes it's good to do it just to momentarily change your train of thought. It may not keep you from continuing to engage in self destructive thinking, but for some it could be worth the effort because after all your brain does do what you tell it to right? You've definitely hit the nail on the head: "the most important element is that we get through the desire to smoke without smoking!" In the end that's all that matters, no matter how you do it. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, Danielle ______________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Great Post! I agree with everything you have said. It is so different from person to person, quit to quit! I applaud you for posting when you need support, that is the whole point! Weather your 10 days or 1000 days quit if you have a crave...well, okay, seek support! We are human and need help sometimes, nothing wrong with that. Lord knows I will be needing support at some point too and I have already gained a lot of support here. I think your doing great and congrats on 120 days, you rock!! Actually Phillip, I think you're one of the few who can really be honest about the incredibly complicated psychophysiological thing that nicotine does to our brains. I'm personally grateful you don't have a rah rah football field mentality about it. Quitting is not the hardest thing I've done. Going through chemotherapy and radiation (just for paliation) for what was supposed to be a terminal cancer- that was very hard. Oddly enough, still here 10 years later, but that's another story not meant for this forum. Losing both my parents and most of the aunts and uncles and dear friends over the years that I loved.....this quit ain't much compared to that. But it's still very, very difficult. I'm glad everyone doesn't go through this quit the same way; I wouldn't want to my struggle and angst with it on anyone; but I tell you, this idea that there's some defect in those of us who do struggle.....well, it makes me want to smoke! LOL Rave away, Phillip. I'm right behind you! ;p :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 119 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,780 Amount Saved: $1071 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 15 Mins: 19 Seconds: 9

Great post Phillip, I know that you have struggled with your quit. But you have also been a great asset to this board. I believe like you everyone is different and just because you have a difficult time doesn't make you any different than the rest of us. We are all in the boat together, and we are here to help each other. And I am so thankful for this site. What ever it takes Phillip I know that you will do it. And thanks for letting us inside your life. Stay strong and keep fighting the battles because you know that it is so worth all the struggles. Congratulations on your 120 days... Phillip, I respect your decision to be away for awhile, take a rest and figure out what is lacking in your life. I too have had to do this and understand completly. Take care Phillip, and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. So it is bright and sunny and very cheery outside, here on this board it is right now bright and sunny and very very cheery. Something is not right for me in my little part of River City, and I have to say I need to take a rest from this. There is something more going on for me here in this community and in my life. So I am going to take a rest, do a little navel gazing and find out what it is. Now I am not giving up on myself, I am not going to quit my quitting smoking and there is an emotional element for me that I need to figure out and I would best be doing it someplace else. Hope you are all well and that as I saw in another post this all turns out well. See you in the future. Be warned take what you want from this post and leave the rest. I am at 120 days and there is some stuff I want to clear. What does it matter if the desire to smoke is a trigger or a crave. This seems like semantics to me. The most important element is that we get through the desire to smoke without smoking! How do we get through that desire to smoke? First up for me as a cold turkey quitter is use this forum. Get the help that I need to stay quit. Work what works. In another thread I see:
Why do people cheer when someone says that quitting smoking is the hardest thing we will do in life? It is this kind of thinking coupled with my addiction that had me too scared to even try to quit smoking. In my opinion it was a lie that I should have never fell for. Had I not believed it would have been so hard, I probably would have attempted to quit long before now.
as well I see a picture that says:
Smoke and don't blame anything on cigarettes. Don't smoke and blame everything on cigarettes. Don't fall into either of these traps.
Please, Please, Please do not blame me for how I think or what my experience has been. Please do not put your fears on me because my experience of quitting has been difficult for me. The cessation of the use of cigarettes and stepping through the addiction that I have for tobacco products has been very difficult, challenging for me. I cheer when someone says that:
Stopping smoking is the hardest thing we will ever do in life.
because I can agree with them! Yes we are all different. One thing that rings absolutely true for me on this site and other sites that deal with the cessation of the use of nicotine and tobacco products is the amount of pain that is evidenced in the addicts. This is not physical pain but it is mental pain. Now I have not said that this is any one of you and there are many who will say that this pain is so for them, I know that it is so for me. Each quitter is different and the manner and, lets call it style, that each quitter uses in their quit is different and as individual as the quitter. For me quitting has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. And I have done some really hard things in my life. I comfort peop

Phillip your perception keeps amazing me to no end. Do what you have to but don't ever let go of your deep comitted self. No matter what, life does continue to get better with attitude. Life also has a price to pay. Whatever you want in life, you must give up something to get it. The greater the value, the greater the sacrifice required of you. There are no short cuts to success. There's a price to pay if you want to make things better, and a price to pay for just leaving things as they are. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easily. Work, continuous work and hard work, is the only way to accomplish results that last. Use your imagination more than your memory to achieve success. The highway to success is a toll road. Pay the price Phillip, it sure as hell is worth it in the long run. Love and respect to you my friend, Duffis
