So far so good been up a few hours. Chewing on straws I made some out of Sonic straws they are as big around as my Kools. Drinking plenty of fluids. Shaky inside and slight head ache. Plan not to be around may people today most of them also smoke. Glad y'all are here. Time to go do some looking in my glovebox. Hi ALL, Still kicking tired and sad most of the day. Did a few things went for a walk. Went to the store picked up supper and cooked it. Now fixen to set down and play a game. Do want to smoke very bad, fighting hard. Wish one of y'all were in my house to slap me. Would be on more but setting still and typing was one of my big triggers, so I guess when I am on longer things will be looking up. Even now when I set and read the posts I wish I had a smoke and that then makes me angery. See y'all in the morning. Coronary - Sitting in front the computer, playing internet card and smoking was my reward at the end of the day. It was kinda tough coming into the computer room when it was such a trigger. I used to come in post, read and run back to my covers. Eventually the support I felt was stronger than the trigger of the computer. The first days are REALLY REALLY hard! You just have to keep going one step at a time. Hang on tite Coronary! For some of us the first days can be quite a test...but rest assured, it gets better and better. I babied myself like crazy....I slept when I was tired, posted all the time, whined repeatedly on this site (i still do!), forgave myself when I was grumpy, listened to the wonderful advice from all the people on SCC and survived! We are right here with you! You can do it! Hey CS - Congratulations on making it through the first day! Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. I find whining is the next best reward to smoking (and nobody ever let me do it before I cam to CS). The other great thing - Bragging is encouraged! Go CS Go! As Marie says - one day at a time. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 295 Amount Saved: $70 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 9 Mins: 37 Seconds: 19

Hi CS........Yep I agree distraction is a big element. I don't care how many times I change tasks during the day. I do anything else except smoke.....ANYTHING....I find changing tasks and activities OFTEN the best way to go for me. I avoid being tough on myself in anyway. I've ditched the 'I have to be perfect' talk. Right from the beginning of my quit I told myself that I wasn't going to restrict myself from anything else that I like and want to do. Its tough enough as it is without feeling like I'm turning myself into a flamin monk. I know a lot of people avoid ANYTHING which they associate with smoking, eg: smoking friends, alcohol, places where people smoke, etc etc. I didn't feel that that strategy would work for me because it would feel like I was giving up way to much all at once and the adjustment would be way to great. This works for me but I realise it does not work for everyone of course. Possibly the most important thing though is being kind to myself. Working on any negative self talk and appreciating what a fantastic job I am doing in conquering smoking. Each day does get better but seriously watch out for the stress events, they are the BIG tests. I now realise that there is NO reason to smoke........NONE. There is not one single reason or excuse. I realise that I cannot BLAME anything else as a reason to smoke. Including craving. I've worked out that it is a form of self punishment. If a flamin bomb went off I wouldn't reach for a cigarette now. I refuse to give my achievment away to some external force that seriously doesn't care if I smoke or not. I am the one that counts. What I think and feel about myself is the most important thing. I seriously don't care if anyone admires the the fact that I have given up smoking, if anyone cares or does not care. I am not doing this for anyone else other than myself. This is prooving to be a winner for me because the motivation is internal not external and it therefore becomes completely irrelevant what happens around me......it can't affect MY decision not to smoke. Please excuse the long rave CS but thought I'd like to share this stuff with you today. Congratulations CS....you are doing a seriously great thing for yourself. Good job! Keep it going. I know it can be tough, so go easy on yourself. Drink lots, post here lots, and pat yourself on the back lots. It does get easier. Hang in there CS. the first few days are the toughest. Drink lots, lots of deep breaths and be totally good to yourself, even if it means watching tv or sleeping. Basically just being lazy and lovin' it. You deserve it. You've worked hard, don't forget that. Hang in there and keep posting. We're all here for you.
