SCC Members, Year 2006 is drawing to a close and the closing will bring many, many, new faces that will need our encouragement and enlightment and Cuddles. If you can, bring forward some older posts or author new ones for our new guests. Personnaly I don't smoke, don't care about it, and don't think about it (big, big period). Maybe I just planned my quit all too well. After all I did smoke for 40 some years and it was killing me ya know. Perhaps a good reason not to light up and stay quit. I would like both seasoned and young, hey, sticken to it and if you slip then get yourself back on the quit track. With coping skills and a detailed plan you, you can succeed. Be certain that smoking is not an option, kick in out of your memory. Distract don't dwell, coping tools and let time heal you! Happy New Year! I know you have smoked for many, many years from sunrise each day to retiring at night. The thought has crossed your mind from time to time that you should be giving this up. It really is difficult to think what life would be without a cigarette, isnt it though. Indeed it is, although you will find that not being slaved to smoking brings lots of benefits. You are scouting around and are interested? Perhaps this may be your time. Feeling strong, willing and determined??

Hi, it is I. Have you begun to get your ducks in order? Consider cutting back on the smoking, one or two each day until you get it down to a number that you feel you are ready to take the plunge. Work on cutting back on those smokes that you don't really crave for at the moment, but you smoke because it is that time of the day when you usually light up. For instance, I would light up at 9 am outside at work because it was time to go have a smoke. Sometime I didn't really want one but went and had one anyway. You should be able to find some of those unnecessary smokes for yourself. After working on these begin to deny yourself, that cigarette that you have while picking up the telephone, or after a meal. Look to establish a quit date for you as many on this site wisely do. Pick a date when things look to be calm on the home and work front, not when you are going to be under an unusually amount of stress. Get your bag of triggers fighter ready and place them in your toolbox: walking, small weight lifting, hiking, water for the car rather than a smoke, gum, carrots, celery.... Use the patch or other similar withdrawal reducing agents. Members, You can also try substituting cigarettes with something else. A piece of gum, candy, a straw, a tall glass of ice water. Find out which coping mechanisms work best for you. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

What a great thread for those on the fence. I also suggest going over to the Quit Program Tools on the left. They will help you decide if you are ready to quit, help you with your goals, and provide coping mechanisms. Learn as much as you can about addiction and about how to quit. Good luck!
