Avelleymom.... So sorry to hear about your friend. Tomorrow is promised to none of us. Be glad that you quit and let him know how he inspired you to take that step. I'm sure it will mean a lot to him to know that he changed your life and gave you a fighting chance. He may even have saved your life from the same fate he is suffering. avalleymom, I'm very sorry to hear this news. Last year I watched a good friend succumb to emphysema at 67. Illness from smoking plays no favorites. Quitting does not guarantee you will never get sick from it, but it does greatly improve your chances. All we can do is roll the dice. Tobacco stinks. Anyone who defends smoking in any way, shape or form either has some serious addiction issues or they are ignorant beyond belief. [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. Be Smart. avalleymom I have always held you in great honor as a leader in this war on nicotine addiction. You might have remembered some of my posts this year that told of losing a total of 3 dear friends to cancer from smoking related causes. One additional friend died from lung cancer and never smoked a day in his life. It rips you up and spits you out, leaving you with the feeling of total dispair and loss. Now I too face the battle with cancer. It is not fun and the decision to fight or just lay down and quit, pops up and there you are. I smoked for 58 years and thought that I had beat the odds, never sick a day in my life. I don't have any complaints and I certainly can not blame any one or thing except my self. Hell I could have been run over by a mad brit or a choo choo train or shot by an irate husband or broke my neck jumping out of a second story bedroom window but that didn't happen. So I take each day and deal with it. It is ok to mourn your friends and the passing of loved ones, just don't lose track of YOU in the process. Take care of you friend and continue to help others in their war on addiction.
