Start smoking again???

18 years ago 0 30 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Dear Bonny; I am soo glad that you didnt start smoking again , this is a good example of sthng i once read which is also a good advice . quote : you can choose your reaction to anything you encounter even if you have no control over the actions of other people unquote . i.e if someone ever says something hurtful or injures you in anyway you can always choose yr reaction you don't have to empower him by responding with hurt feelings or negative thoughts you can BE STRONG and eliminate what ever he did and act as if nothing happened , you can even turn on the whole thing around and use it as a motivator !!! good luck and BE STRONG !! I am from South Africa and the language spoken is known as Afrikaans. It is very similar to Dutch and if I am not mistaken it is derived from Dutch which was spoken by the first settlers that landed here. My update...... spoke to hubby about what I am going through and he now understands. I bought myself a bicycle to help with the weight problem and chewing apples instead of toffees. Tomorrow I will be 14 days smoke free. My friend came back from her vacation and was delighted to hear I don't smoke but she says it is weird not to see a cigarette dangling from my mouth. She said our working enviroment smells much better. I crave a smoke everyday at about 17:00, I drink a tall glass of cold water when that happens and soon the crave is gone. To all my fellow quitters keep up the battle, it really feels good to say "Thank you but I don't smoke!"

At this moment I am so angry and hurt at the same time. I haven't had a smoke in 11 days, and I chew toffees or toothpicks when the craving is there. My cravings have not been so bad the last few days but that is because I keep myself busy. Today, before my husband went to work, I was chewing on a toffee when my wonderful husband told me "jy raak lekker dik ne" in english that means "you are getting fat hey". Now I know I do not have a beautiful body and I know all to well that I am overweighted in other words fat but dammit why won't he let me handle one problem at a time. Once I am 1 month smoke free I can start on a strict regime of dieting and exercising. But after what he said I so much wanted to grab a smoke and tell him to go f**k himself!! Instead I'm sitting infront of my computer crying my eyes out while I am typing. Is quitting smoking really worth all this aggrivation? I can't think of one good reason to carry on not smoking. I started this program so I could breath better and not run for my asthma pump each morning and to prove to myself I could accomplish this. Now I'm thinking to hell with it all if it means all I going to get from him is critisism. The worst part is I don't have a cigarette in the house and I can't go to the shop because my cars battery is flat and we live way out of town so walking there is out of the question. I just feel so... aaarg I can't even find the right word! Thanks for listening, thanks for the support, and to my 'very supportive hubby' I will not smoke and I will lose all the weight, what is your excuse?? good thing you posted, one thought, everytime you want a cig just say no I am not going to give up my control to my husband and that is what your doing you are stronger then that. Another thing is alot of times smokers want people who are trying to quit to smoke again so they have their playmate back. keep strong I am rooting for you girl. Cigarettes Not Smoked

I read (a reputable source) that the body stops craving nicotine after about 8 weeks. At eight weeks it then becomes much safer to try a real diet... In the meantime just try to manage the eating by eating carrots, celery, sugar free vitamin c drops are claimed to take the edge off the cravings. Have a talk with hubby. This is where assertiveness is extrememly important to your quit. not 'Go F**k yourself* and not cutting off your nose to spite your face by starting smoking again, and not by just doing nothing. What your husband said was hurtful to you, and you have the right to not be hurt. If you start smoking agian, you'll just be a fat smoker, and will your husband never say another hurtful thing? You have to tell him that this is not acceptable behavior.
