I am new to this Forum. I have been smoking for 19 years and looking to quit now but have no true idea how to start. Yes, Know the first step is admitting you have an addiction, so HERE I AM :) I am in search of a good supportive forum, which I am sure this one is. I could use all the help I can get and i also found this other place that seems nice as well. Hopefully I can quit the right way and for good!. Laura

Good point, Sparky. Why is so hard to remember (for me anyway) how hard it was to quit, how many months worth of throwing away packs only to buy some more, sometimes hours later? Why is hard to remember how miserable quitting makes you feel? I suppose it is a good thing our memories tend to help us forget some things with time but too bad it happens with smoking. I hope that I will keep coming here, though, long after I feel that I need to so that I can remember by reading the accounts of new quitters - how much they want to quit, how they stink, how they are controlled by their addictions, etc. Thanks for the post, Sparky. I'm at 8 days now and will be 9 days tomorrow morning at 10 am. I'm just behind you on the quit highway. I always thought that I needed to smoke to relax, smoke to deal with stress, smoke when i am bored, depressed, happy, partying, etc but I'm beginning to think that I have brainwashed myself. In fact, I've hated my addiction and hated myself because of my addiction for many years now. I've withdrawn more and more from other people as more people are quitting and all stores/restaurants/bars are smokefree. I've been embarrrassed of my stinky house, my stinky car. Can't deny that there aren't times when I think about smoking, but I don't ever want to go back there. My car, my house and Me too...we all smell good! I never thought I could quit...even for a week...but you guys give me faith to believe that I can do this for a lifetime! Hi Sparky, Yes, that quote was a little reminder for me, too! It rings so true, that statement. What an annoying drug nicotine is - it makes our bodies constantly crave something we don't even really like. I am thinking less and less of this Nicodemon as each day passes. And, as each day passes, I am growing stronger alongside all of my friends on SSC. I, too, am very grateful to you all - this site really has helped me a lot. I know when I smoked I was unhappy if I couldn't have a cig, because in Qc can't smoke anywhere, I dreaded the restaurant unless it was fast service, no time to relax gotta smoke. I hated going outside smoking with strangers. All of my friends are non-smokers except the two puffers I've told you about LOL. So I was miserable when I smoked and miserable when I didn't. This freedom is so addictive,,,,,,, it's a good addiction, please don't smoke, it's not worth it. Celebrate the freedom everyday. :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 134 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,021 Amount Saved: $536 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 18 Mins: 28 Seconds: 17
