still like hell

Hi people!!! I am in my 12th day of not smoking, but yesterday evening I was really felt that I was going to quit my efforts. I was very nervous and when my husband ( he quitted smoking for about a year) asked me how I was feeling I started crying. I don`t know but I thought that it would be much easier after the first hell week. I have less cravings during the day but in the evenings at home is like hell. I used to do everything with a cig. on. I believe that my emotional dependence on smoking is much stronger than I am Thinking of having a cig. almost every minute and then I become numb at the back of my head. I am getting crazy!!!! But still SMOKE+ NICOTINE FREE Need some advice Tsikos from Greece My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 339 Amount Saved: 61.6 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 24 Seconds: 21

Tsikos, It seems you are in the 2nd week of quitting, which is usually called the "blah week"! :) Just hang in there, and the craving will soon pass! I'm sure that other friends will give better advice on this ! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 423 Amount Saved: $210 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 20 Mins: 40 Seconds: 47

tsikos, You know everyone is different in their quit. But I do assure you it gets better. One day very soon I bet you will all of a sudden realize, hey that didn't effect me like it had been. It comes in little steps but eventually it seems like big strides. Good luck and be strong!! You can do it! tsikos, You're in the middle of Heck week... much like Hell Week, but not quite as bad... although for me, this was my toughest week because like you, I thought that I should be over it by then... but unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way. Our emotional dependences of smoking are often so much harder to deal with than our physical dependence. We smoked for many many many years... we can't expect to be over it all in a matter of a week and a half. I know that would be nice, but unfortunately again, it doesn't work that way. So what I think you need to do now is go out and get yourself a reward for all of your hard work! You're worth it! Crave the Quit! T, I think you should read the Hall of Fame Recipients. Each person who was chosen to receive this honor, have something to share and teach us. I think it would help you out and make see the path of this journey a little bit clearer for you. I am thinking of you, T. =) Hall of Famer / Click Here My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 153 Amount Saved: $30 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 27 Seconds: 38

HI T and CONGRATS on a job well done!! Everyone's quit is different but at the same time, we are traveling down that same road. No, you are not crazy. We have learned to hide behind the cigs and we have rewarded or dealt w/ issues by smoking. Evenings are stressful! You are the mom, the cook, the school tutor, the wife, etc. And that in itself is stressful!! So many things to do before we finally hit the pillow at night!! Sit down at dinner, and tell your family they will need to help out and support you during this time. Buy frozen dinners for a month, have the husband cook dinner or pick something up on the way home, have the kids throw in a load of clothes, load the dishwasher, etc. Delegate chores to the family. And even if they do not do it right, take a deep breath and say to yourself they made it a little bit easier for you. What you are feeling is normal. Your innerself is terrified of this step!! It is looking at it as being an unnatural state of mind. All we have ever known is smoking and the body thinks it is unnatural not to smoke!! This is what we call the junkie talking---trying to persuade you back to the smokes. You are actually fighting with yourself and yes, I have done the exact same thing!! Say to yourself you are not a smoker. Repeat this *all* the time so it becomes a habit. You want to convince your brain what you are doing is completely normal!! You may want to talk to your doc to help you with this journey. There are medicines to help cope with these feelings. I think it was Josie who has said that smoking has often masked the true feelings of how we have felt all along. Depression, anger, anxiety, etc. We do go thru a mourning period, we do have anger, etc. Most of all, do as Healer has told so many people. Be gentle with yourself. This is a very difficult time for you. Do whatever it takes to remain smoke free forever. Love your quit, read over your reasons, pamper yourself each minute, and if you have to cry, then CRY!!! Let it all out!! Grab your pillow and CRY!!! Want to shout and scream?? Go to the bathroom and look in the mirror!! Yell at the junkie and smile at the new YOU!! Praise the NEW YOU!!! Tell yourself how proud you are of YOU!!! HUG yourself!! LOVE YOURSELF!! YOU DESERVE to be FREE from the nicode

T, Just remember to breathe deep and slow. Keep reminding your self of N.O.P.E.- Not One Puff Ever. For my reward at the end of a week I usually take a nice bath, or take time to watch the sunset. Just some me time where no one interferes. I reflect on how far I have come in my quit and remind myself that I am worth it. It does get easier! I don't get as many cravings anymore and I no longer have withdrawl symptoms. Just know you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and do whatever you have to to keep your quit. Tsikos, congratulations on 11 days smokefree.. have you been rewarding yourself? You need to take good care of yourself during this time, you come first, it's very normal that you feel like crying, it's alright, when your body is stressed, you feel like crying to relieve that stress throught your tears, let yourself go ride the waves, reward yourself do whatever you have to do but don't smoke. :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 115 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,730 Amount Saved: $460 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 5 Mins: 5 Seconds: 49
