Good morning Parola! Glad to see you made the decision to quit! I know it will be hard, no not hard, more like unbearable, for a few days, but hang in there..... it gets better. Post here a lot. And read old posts. It passes time, as well as helps out emotionally. You sound determined. That is good. Just dont fool yourself. Making yourself "forget" your quit will throw you off always. It is the habit of smoking that is making you forget. It is very difficult to break, but it sure is possible, and very rewarding!
How can you act on the basis of willpower - when you do not have it yet?
Think about this for a minute. You already made the decision to quit. That is willpower. Search within yourself. You will find it. Believe in yourself, stay strong, and just dont smoke.Very simple, but not easy. Come here, and we will walk with you on your journey. Take one crave at a time. Dont look beyond that for now. Hey Parola Welcome to the SSC! You have found the right place for support and to find all the right tools for a successful quit. If you are "forgetting" about your quit so easily maybe you could put some post-it notes around to help you remember. Maybe one on the car steering wheel, one in your wallet if you accidentally try to buy a pack, one on your computer screen, and anywhere else you may be tempted to light up. One thing that you really must do though is destroy all the cigs you have left and get rid of ashtrays, lighters, etc. Just get rid of any and everything that has to do with smoking...you can't smoke what's not there and the reason that it is not there should be a reminder in itself. Have you followed the program on the left? While going through the program you will set up your quit meter and be given the information to download the IM program. Good luck today....let us know how you're doing Sheila ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/4/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 52 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,570 Amount Saved: $260 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 5 Mins: 6 Seconds: 58

Welocme to the SSC and congratulations on a great decsion. Read and post here all you can it really helps. The support here is the best youwill find anywhere. Cutting down is great (I did it too) but once you quit it is so much better because you are finally free of the smokes, you feel as if your life is your own again. To show your quit meter just check the box below where you type your message. You can send an email to the site and they will advise you on how to use the IM. Good luck with your quit and remember someone is here when you need help. Parola, I'm afraid I can't help with your IM problem.... I just wanted to comment on what you said in you earlier posts. It is normal that you feel uncomfortable when you first quit smoking. But you must keep fighting to be free. This phase will not last too long. The best advice is to Delay (Delay making any decision to give in) and Distract (find something else to concentrate on). Talk to yourself - tell yourself that you can do it - look at everyone around here quitting. Do not buy a pack 'just in case'....that is planning for failure....and I guarantee it will lead to a relapse. It will get easier, I promise. You can do this, and it is worth every step that you have to go through. Be strong.
