Hi Ann, how are you doing? Believe me, I'm right there with you. Last nite I thought I was going crazy, and kept questioning my decision to stop. And I am also taking Zyban, so who knows if its helping the cravings or not. The Zyban made me really irritable before I quit, go figure, its an antidepressant and it made me angry. Anyway, we made a smart choice to quit, and this IS hell week for us. It only gets easier. Lots of deep breathing. Now I can see why the seasoned quitters say "stay close to this computer". If I couldn't check this site so darned much I would probably be smoking again by now. Have fun at the gold coast! You said: "Have headache, im tense, anxious and teary!" I was sure I would be the same; so every day of my first week or so I took Panadol first thing in the morning whether I thought I needed it or not. This is so unlike me 'cause I never normally take painkillers, but I was determined not to give myself any more stress than I had to! I can't drink coffee when I first give up (this is about my 6th attempt I think) so I knew I'd be having a shocker headache from caffeine withdrawals as well. Your hubby must be rapt that you've stopped smoking. My hubby quit at the same time as me. He's had a few minor slip ups but mostly OK, thank goodness! I would find it a lot more difficult if ciggies were in the house. Cheers, talk to you later alison :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 783 Amount Saved: $325 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 50 Seconds: 48

Thanks Ann, I'm not on the IM @ home coz we don't use Windows but I will definitely download it when I'm at work next. I'm a shiftworker too so I might get a chance to talk to some of our Northern Hemisphere buddies! cheers alison :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 785 Amount Saved: $325 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 17 Mins: 5 Seconds: 40

Hi Ann, I'm in Australia too! :) I agree, the first few days were completely spacey, aggro, painful, teary and frightening. And I wanted to quit real bad. I just kept telling myself that my poor body has to adjust all it's levels again to be healthy and purge all the chemicals from smoking - not just nicotine! Focus on the many positives rather than on the cravings. What rewards are you going to give yourself with all the money you save? It's a fortune isn't it! Trust me (& everyone else) it does get easier - every single day. You CAN DO THIS. Take care alison ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 783 Amount Saved: $325 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 44 Seconds: 35

Aekvall, On the left side of the screen, under QUIT PROGRAM TOOLS, you'll see a section marked SSC INSTANT MESSENGER. Download it, works much like MSN but connects you directly with other quitters. To add buddies, just go through any of the forums and on the left hand side of their post you'll see the words ADD TO BUDDY LIST. Next, time to distract yourself. If you don't have the energy for anything physical or that involves people in any capacity there's still quite a few options: music, puzzles, computer games, art, video games, movies anything really that will keep your mind and hands occupied. Lastly, what's your reward system? This is very important to maintaining your quit, especially during those first few weeks. Rewards should be both big and small. Example: Everytime you crave, you get your favorite candy. At the end of another smoke free day you get a full hour in the tub and at the end of the smoke free week a trip to the mall to buy yourself something nice with all the money you saved. Whatever works for you. Hope this helps you get through, Danielle _____________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi, Aekvall. Two cups of coffee is not helping unless it's decaf. Nicotine inhibits the effects of caffeine. When you quit smoking, that inhibition is lifted so coffee has a much greater effect on you. Mood swings, sleep disturbances, and irrational emotions are all part of the first couple of weeks of not smoking. When you smoked, nicotine and the other 4000+ chemicals in cigarettes invaded every aspect of your body and brain, altering their respective chemistries. Now that you've quit, all that is out of balance and it will take a while for it to return to normal. Just keep in mind that all these feelings are temporary, they will not harm you (regardless of how it may feel), and they are signs of healing. If you have not already done so, I strongly suggest you go through this site's Online Quit Program. There's a lot of good information and tips to help you along. Congratulations on 4 days quit. The nicotine is out of your system now (unless you're using NRT). Any smoking will just prolong everything. Hi, Ann. I smoked 20, or so, a day. Some days a few more, some a few less, but about a pack of 20 a day in general. I was on Wellbutrin for the first month, but I had a couple of weird things happen that made me decide to not use it anymore so I discontinued it. I had no problem coming off it. Dropped back to 1/2 dose for a week, then stopped completely. No real increase in craves during that time. Some people on Zyban claim no craves, some don't seem to be affected by it at all and crave like mad. Use the coping methods I mentioned, plus any others you feel will work for you. I know it's hard to stay calm. Some folks have panic attacks as the result of quitting smoking. Maybe you're one of them? Only your doctor could say for sure. Might want to ask about them. Hang in there, Ann. It's hell now (that's why they call it hell week), but it does get better. That I can promise you. Can't say when unfortunately, but it does get better. BTW, it's after 1 in the morning and I've really got to get to bed so don't get upset if I don't post anymore tonite. Stay strong. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 383 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,663 Amount Saved: $1455.4 Life Gained: Days: 71 Hrs: 10 Mins: 24 Seconds: 6
