Spaced Out Feeling

19 years ago 0 2 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks Shevie and Rob for your input, I guess it really comes down to removing nicotine from the system once and for all. There really is no easy way to do this. I'm going to take your advice Shevie, I know i'll suffer for a few days but I do need to "finish the job" :). Thanks again, any more help on how to make the process more comfortable would be great!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi all I am new to this site, let me introduce myself. I'm Mike 32 years old and have smoked for 14 years, I quit last september 2005 but need some advice. I stopped smoking by using nicotine gum and am still using it as I now find it very difficult to quit the gum. My main problem is everytime I stop the gum I get very bad spaced out foggy feeling. People have said this is due to the CO2 leaving your body but as I haven't smoked for over 8 months I'm not sure if it is that. The symtoms only arise when I quit the gum so is it not nicotine withdrwal. I really want to give up the gum but this symptom really bothers me and I can't think staright when I have it. Another problem when giving up the gum is constipation but at least I can do somthing about that (not really sure what). Its more the spaced out thing that really winds me up. Any advice would be most appreciated Thanks

Hi Mike- it is withdrawing from nicotine that you are experiencing. Nothing to do with CO2 or the other smoking stuff. Hi, Mike. Congratulations on being smoke-free for 9, or so, months. I think Rob's on track with the nicotine withdrawal. You are still putting nicotine into your body and are still addicted to it. You've just changed your delivery system. During the first few days of quitting smoking there is a purge of CO2 and that's often blamed for the spaced out foggy feeling. But users of smokeless tobacco also experience this and they don't have the CO2 issue. The foggy feeling and digestive problems will only last a few days, Mike. Maybe it's time to finish the job?
