I ve just got to stop

18 years ago 0 133 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi mr mom! Welcome to the SSC board! I LOVE your Name! Im also 42 turning 43 this year and have a 5-year-old son. I have been smoking since I was 16. I have never really tried to quit in the past. I would cut down to a couple a day, but never 100% CIG free. There is something different with this quit. I wanted to LIVE more then I wanted to SMOKE. I wanted to be around to see my youngest son grow up! He has been my biggest inspiration to quit, I would look into his big brown eyes and the thought of him growing up without his Mom was enough to rip out my insides.. I knew all the dangers of smoking what smoker doesnt. What I didnt KNOW is how do you stop? I read, read, read did my Quit Program Tools in my Glove Compartment. I also read the book from Allen Carrs book The Easy Way To Stop Smoking, it was very helpful and worth the 15.00 I paid. The one thing I wasnt as prepared for as I should have been is the depression you feel when you stop smoking. It still comes up behind me and bits me in the B*TT. So I found a support group here in my town on depression that I will be starting Monday. Tomorrow will be 50 days for me! YES! What has helped me the most is the people on the SSC site! I truly believe I would not of made it this far without them. You need support that you can reach out to 24/7. Go back a read some of the older Postings and when you find one that really hits home print it out. Start a Quit Journal and if you have a Bad Withdrawal or Craving and you cant get to your Computer to post you can read your Journal it has help me a 100 times. Just Remember Today YOU have the POWER! Today YOU have a CHOICE! Today YOU CHOSE LIFE! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Mr. Mom - I also went to the doctor and got on Wellbutrin. She advised that sometimes, and she stressed sometimes, it made cigs taste bad and that sometimes it takes the desire away to smoke. Well I am here to tell you that it didn't do that with me. I still wanted to smoke on the Wellbutrin. However, it did take the edge off of my cravings and my outlook on life wasn't as bad as it could have been if I had gone cold turkey. My family was very grateful that I went on it! LOL! Your daughter is your great motivation for you to quit. Who else will she have if you don't?? Decide where you smoke and put her picture everywhere around there - at work?? put a picture on your desk - at home? well - she's right there with you! At the computer - tape one to your screen. In the car?? - tape a picture on your visor - and carry the vision of her being so proud of her Daddy for not smoking anymore. You're an amazing man and you can do this! You're strong - you're raising her aren't you?? You're young, and you do want to be around to see her grow up. That's the first step...Use the tools on this website to get prepared. It can be a bumpy ride but you are doing the right thing. I'll be on the lookout for you - Take Care Island Girl

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Mr. Mom - Did you start working on the Quit Program Notebook to the left? This is very helpful in setting your mind on quitting. Sometimes it takes many times trying to quit before you hit the one that sticks. Just keep on keeping on - you'll get there! There was a quote for the day a couple of days ago that really says it all to me and I think Bubba pasted it on another thread today. It goes like this: Remind yourself regularly that you are better than you think you are. Successful people are not superhuman. Success does not require a super-intellect. Nor is there anything mystical about success. And success isn't based on luck. Successful people are just ordinary folks who have developed belief in themselves and what they do. Never - yes, never - sell yourself short I believe that you want to quit. I believe that you want to be around for your 5 year olds long life. What would she do without you? If something happens to you, where would she go?? She is just a baby girl - she depends on you for her life. It's time to get tough and put those cigs down and keep your promise to her. Isn't she the most important thing in your life? or is smoking? I can't believe that the answer is smoking - so please, please, please do this for yourself and in turn doing it for her. Pick a new quit date and start again. Work the tools to the left to your advantage. Get plenty of non-smoking aids - hard candy, straws to cut in half and suck through, twizzlers. If you talk to your doctor I'm sure they would be thrilled to help you on your path to non-smoking. Aren't you taking Wellbutrin?? It takes a couple of weeks before it really kicks in. The wanting sometimes doesn't go away with the drug - it just helps the nerves and the anquish and panic that people sometimes feel when they quit. Drink plenty of water - somehow it helps with the cravings. Do you smoke around your daughter? If so, please do research on second hand smoke for children. It is deadly - so if you are doing it - STOP IT! Everyone here at SSC is pulling for you. We care about you and your life. I know that you can pull that strength up from your toes and make this work! You are an amazing man who loves his daughter. Island Girl My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 [

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi there, I had been smoking for about 35 years more or less non stop, had tried a couple of times to quit a good few years ago and decided to give it another go. So in many ways I was more of a 'hopeless case' than you are! (or think you are). The first thing you have to do is get your mind in gear, by this I mean that you have to really want to quit and also have the belief that you can actually do it. As other wise folk put it here, you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke! What you then have to do is have a plan of how you are actually going to do this, to help you there are the quit program tools on this site over to the left. Once you have prepared yourself keep coming here, there is nothing better than keeping the company of like minded folk who are going through the same process as you are and can offer help and support. Like I said, if I can do it then I am sure you can if you have the right attitude and lots of determination. Good luck and I hope that you do join us for bpoth you and your daughter's sake. Hi Mr. Mom, I wish that I had taken the time to prepare more for my quit but have gone too far now and am just trying to catch up. You, on the other hand, have the chance to stock up your no smoking arsonal before taking the big leap. I've heard that the book, "The easy way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr is an excellent and helpful read while quitting. You can get it for around $15.00 at some of the online stores. I think Welbutrin is basically to help with the anxiety of stopping and is not meant to be a magic stop smoking pill. I hope the best for you. With perseverance, it does get easier. But you've got to start the quit first!
