Martha:
The thoughts about smoking will last for a while. I remember feeling that I was mentally challenged for the first few weeks because it was like I was on a loop of thinking, "Oh, now I can have a cigarette. Oh wait...no, I don't smoke anymore." Over and over and over again.
LOL ... I remember that. Thank goodness it passes! Determined, Willpower will not cut it. Let me explain what I mean. Willpower means that you have to stop yourself from doing something you enjoy. Repeat after me and believe it: Smoking sucks and I am happy to not smoke. When you quit smoking, you also have to quit thinking you enjoy it. Do not go through your quit wishing you could have a cig! Talk about self-defeat! Instead, think about how great it is NOT TO SMOKE! Check out a book by Allen Carr on quitting smoking: How to Stop Smoking the EasyWay. It worked for me. I am going strong and even more importantly, I am happy to be a non-smoker now. Hello and Welcome Determined! You've picked the right site to belong to, everyone here is incredibly supportive and together we can get through. My thoughts of smoking are deffinitly dwindling. I no longer think about smoking first thing in the morning - and I was a wake up and light up type of girl!! I still think about it during the day here and there but as each day passes the cravings get weaker and I get stronger. You said you are using will power - that's great but are you using the patch or gum or anything? I know from previous quit experiences that the patch really helps me take the edge off. I know it makes my husbands life a bit easier. Actually yesterday I forgot to put it on and around dinner time Mike asked if I was wearing it and maybe I should think about putting it on!!!!! LOL, poor guy, guess I was overly cranky and he had to point it out! Anyways the point is help is out there if you need it. And we are here for you too. Cheers, Skidoo My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 367 Amount Saved: $165 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 16 Mins: 39 Seconds: 37

Hi Determined and Welcome! :) There is no miracle cure, you are right- but then there is a miracle in all of this. YOU are the miracle that gets discovered as you achieve each moment and each day with no smoke. The thoughts of smoking only decrease as you FILL yourself with positive things like your senses coming alive again, smelling fresh cut grass like you did as a child, the smell of homemade cookies or brownies or pie, the scent of a fresh meadow or mountain air. These senses come alive when the chemicals leave your body. You come to life again! And in many more ways. These are just some that I have experienced and have been enjoying very much. Your Life is a miracle. That is really all you need to know. And there is nothing that can take that away, unless you allow it to. Whatever method you use to quit, do it for the right reasons, do it for you first. You will be successful!! Keep us posted on how you are doing. Many Blessings, Eve My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 52 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 421 Amount Saved: $156 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 10 Mins: 10 Seconds: 2

Determined, WELCOME! Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking, I can only say that you must have not been too determined at the time of the laser therapy to have smoked right after. If you're not ready, it doesn't work. I could have walked out of therapy and smoked too - but I didn't want to because I wanted to QUIT more than I wanted to smoke. We all know there is no magic pill or there would be no smokers! I hope that whatever method you choose now will support you without fail. Get your coping mechanisms ready for those craves! Everyone is different and you will hopefully find what works well for you, straws, licorice, red hots, hard candy, etc. Breathe in, breathe out and post here as much as you'd like. That's why we are here - and remember N.O.P.E. Not One Puff EVER! D2Q, You are right. There is no "miracle" treatment out there. Luckily, there are aids though. Mine was hypnosis. It helped me get into the right frame of mind to put one foot in front of the other. And here I am today. The one thing that I did was stop romanticizing smoking. The thoughts of "liking" smoking, well, I just threw them out. I refused to let myself say "I miss smoking", "I loved smoking", etc, etc, etc..... As long as I did not dwell on the fact that I no longer smoke, it went okay. But the moment a crave came on and I did not throw it out of my mind, it lasted way too long. Just take one crave at a time. The thoughts of smoking stop when you make them. Although, time will help, you have the power to make them stop as well. ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,599 Amount Saved: $281.22 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 23 Mins: 20 Seconds: 20
