Ah... The Drill Sergeant returns. You know, some take Golferman's posts to be tough, direct, and some even get really ticked off by them. But I must admit that a lot of the posts like the one above is what helped me to develop the determination I needed to quit. You reminded me that in the very beginning I was consumed with my quit. My entire world revolved around the quit and that is what it took. My school projects were about my quit, my work waited and suffered for my quit, my relationships suffered for my quit. The quit was the number one priority in my life. Now I find that because of that time out for my quit, I became a better student, my relationships improved, my work has improved and I have even been promoted on my job. In other words, you may think you can't put life on hold for your quit but guess what, get your quit going and then your life will fall into place. It is a struggle, there are no magic pills, there are no shots, no clicking of heels are going to get you quit. Time without smoking is the only way to get over smoking. Each time you light a cigarette you start the process all over again. One fact you left out Joe... Fact: Smoking will Kill you! NascarFan, Yes, I can be blunt at times. Cancer, emphysema, heart disease, etc., can be very blunt also. All that stands between a smoker and one of these dreaded illnesses is the ability to quit and a bit of luck. I have lost family members to smoking and I have also watched friends die or become horribly disabled from smoking. If I seem terse at times it is only because of my deep passion to see every smoker quit. When I see many newbies struggle mightily or put their quits in danger with doubt or fear, it really strikes a chord in me. Most of my replies to threads are just common sense advice. However, this particular post was born out of frustration, not anger. I truly mean no one here any personal discomfort from my posts. However, if you or anyone else here, takes something from them, then all the better. Sometimes cheerleaders have to shout to be heard. :p [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. Be Smart. NascarFan, Read and acknowledged. Keep going on your quit, never look back and never allow yourself to think... 'just one'. Have no fear... since I'm so old that I don't have any teeth anymore, my bark is much worse than my bite! ;p [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. Be Smart. Stu, et al., I have been on the SSC for over a year now and I can't recall a time where there were more indifferent, undecided, uncommited, unsure people who are "trying" to quit. This isn't a game people! This is real life! A life that you are giving away to a damn, stupid addiction to a dried up plant!! You have issues? Hell, we all have issues! If you breathe you have issues! You have wanted to quit. You have recognized the importance in quitting or you wouldn't be here. So QUIT!!!! Quitting takes Strength, Determination, Commitment and A Positive Attitude!! What do you folks think it takes? A pat on the head by someone telling you it will be all better if you stand still and click your heals together three times while chanting "I am quit" "I am quit" "I am quit"! Get real people! Quitting is hard work that requires your full attention. It requires you to wake up one morning and say.. "No damn way am I going to give control of my life to this stupid cigarette!" Fact: More people don't smoke than do smoke! Fact: Smoking displaces oxygen which your body needs to LIVE. Fact: Smoke contains some of the nastiest poisons around. Fact: The tobacco companies don't give a damn about your health. Fact: Most people don't look good with an oxygen bottle. Get the picture? Stop feeling sorry for yourselves. Take control of your life. If you don't, those cigarettes are just waiting there for you to be a slave to them. Nuff' said. [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. Be Smart. NascarFan, You want rude? Try being a Jeff Gordon fan at Talladega! It's a "Little E" lovefest there! (for the record, I'm NOT a #24 fan!) My post was directed at whoever feels that it fits them. I'm an equal opportunity motivator. :8o: Like everything on this site.. take what you like or works and leave the rest. [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. Be Smart. Nothing like a post by Golferman to get peoples blood boiling and passion flaring. There are a few on the board right now who this is directed at. I am one of them. I not offended. I know you are right and I have taken it to heart, or better yet imprinted it on my brain. I get it!!!!! Nothing new here that hasn't been said on these boards before; just beware of opinions stated as fact! Other than that, as has been said in this thread already, take what you need and leave the rest. Nascarfan, there is nothing wrong with being sensitive and there are many ways to tell the same story. For you, just do what you need to do to stay quit, that is all that matters right now and let others rejoice in their own opinions. BTW congratulations on 10 days quit today! Penitent d737
