Question on stats that concern me

18 years ago 0 5195 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I try to respond to everyone in the stats section. We all want to be praised for our accomplishments here because this is HARD WORK to remain smoke free. I do on occassion miss a few but I try to hit them all. I think the timing of the posts is also a factor. On the weekends things get really quiet around here. I think some just miss the posts and that it isn't intentional. If a post gets moved to the bottom or another page and there haven't been many responses, we can always bump it back up to the top so others can see it. Cuddles, I really don't think you've offended anybody. I don't see how anyone could be offended by your question, since it's a very valid point. I agree with everyone that time zones, the number of people posting and other factors do come into play, but there's also one other that nobody mentioned and that's that a lot of times, the person being congratulated will respond saying thank you, and that bumps it back up when it may have been at the bottom, and then people who may not have been on the day it was posted now have an opportunity to see it and then it goes down further, and then they say thank you again, and it bumps it back up... that's not to say that saying thank you is wrong, though. Please don't misunderstand me! I'm just saying that that's one reason why a certain post might be up longer than others. That, and I've seen some people who say thank you after every or every other response, and so that will bump up the number of responses as well. Yes Cuddles, there are many many many factors that contribute to people getting congratulated and it's not all about popularity like Katy said. Congratulations on your 26 days... you're more than 1/2 way to the Cruise Ship! Way to go! Crave the Quit! Hi, Cuddles. I think part of it is that some of us are very limited in the amount of time we have to spend here, so we tend to focus the time we do have on where it will do the most immediate good. Given the choices of responding to a post celebrating a milestone, an introduction, and a call for help I will respond to the call for help, the introduction, and finally the celebration. If I don't have time for all, I'll do what I can while I can. Recognition for achieving a milestone is very important because it is certainly a type of reward. I remember how proud I was when reached milestones and how good responses were. Perhaps I need to push the priority on responding to these threads up some. Thanks for the reminder, Cuddles. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 361 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,222 Amount Saved: $1371.8 Life Gained: Days: 67 Hrs: 7 Mins: 44 Seconds: 57

what you notice does happen....everyone here needs to realize that a lot of responses depends on a lot of factors......and the least of them is the popularity of a person. It mostly depends on who is online...who gets online next....how many posts are offered up at the same time or soon after your post. A post can fall to the lower positions rather quickly if lots of people are on here posting. that can happen to your post even after it has received a couple of answers. You are right to show concern....especially to the newer quitters. I remember well in the beginning, checking and rechecking to see if anyone had answered my post. sometimes I come on and just look for the posts that only have a couple of answers....even if they are a few days old. I remember the boost it was to be validated by older members.....so keep up that good work of looking for those posts!
