Hi Trudy, You have found a great place! Read and learn as much as you can and post whenever you need to. Don't ever think you are whining. You can always express your feelings here. Congrats on your 2 days. The time really does fly by. I never thought I would be able to quit having tried many times, but I am already at 70 days today. If you want it you can do it! Hi Trudy. Welcome to the SSC. You have found the best place there is to quit smoking. Work the program tools to the left. Take a lot of deep breaths and drink a lot of water. That really helped me early in my quit. The people here are awesome and will help you through any difficult time. All you need to do is post. Quitting isn't easy but you will find it is the journey of a lifetime. Not only is it worth the hard work, it can be done and you can do it. Congratulations on putting out that last cigarette. Hi, Trudy. Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking and welcome to the SSC. Don't worry about long, whiney posts. Whine, cry, scream, laugh, gripe, complain, babble incoherently. It's all good because that's what we're here for. :) What pulled you back 20 years ago was the addiction. Nicotine is now listed as a drug of addiction, just like heroin and cocaine. In fact, the brain's response to nicotine is very similar to its response to cocaine. Spooky, huh? But it can be overcome. Just look around this site for proof. I strongly suggest you work through this site's Online Quit Program. There's a ton of good information and tips that will help you through this. Stay close, read much, post often. Let us know how you're doing and how we can help. This is a great decision you've made for your life, Trudy. You can do this (I know these things). ;) Oh, and remember to check the "Show my Quit Meter" box when you make a post. Watching the numbers climb is a real boost. Oh I sooo understand your terror. I was terrified too. And like most smokers, very ambivalent about quitting. I live on a tiny island where there is no support group available. Finding this site and the people here willing to share their information, insight and support literally saved my quit and my life. Twenty four seven I stayed glued. You can do this, REALLY! Withdrawal is the pits but the freedom afterwards is something unbelievable. Best wishes! Welcome, Trudy! Wow, this time you have found the support group to end all support groups! It's like a 24-hour meeting -- always someone here. We're all in various stages of our quits and we all have different circumstances, but we all have one thing in common -- we're kicking that addiction to the curb! Work the program tools over on the left and join us on the forum here. Don't worry about tomorrow. Just do one day at a time.
