Adam- we can all relate to everything you say. Everything. Please don't expect that it will be all better in 3 days...and I'm not being negative here. I do think the worst is over, but it becomes something else after that. Don't get discouraged. It's a fight, but so worth it. You'll be really proud of yourself as those days tick away. Keep up the good work...3 days is awesome. Dear Adam, Take one moment at a time, stay in the moment rather than jumping ahead of yourself. In other words, take the big picture and make it into smaller, more handleable pieces... That has really worked for me. This journey is hell, it's hard, some days it even feels impossible. But as we know, there are many of us doing it. So this is definitely doeable. It really is a choice. It's about what is MOST important to YOU. Lady's words, and they support me on my Quit journey (go something like this): When you want to quit smoking more than you want to smoke, you will quit. And those words are so true, and simple. This is a hell of an addiction, my friend. It's a choice - and staying Quit is about finding ways/proactive behaviors to support you in staying quit. Stay strong - we are all here for you. Hi Adam, Quitting - it's a hell of a journey, my friend. Ups and downs, crying and yelling - being mad as hell, picking a fight with a salesperson, and so it goes. You are hanging in there. Read, write in a journal, call a friend, yell, run, walk around the block, watch a TV show, go to the mall, play in the grass, take a hot, soothing bath, hug your wife, do something special for yourself, plant some flowers, wash the car, paint a wall, and get that anger and frustration out, sleep, do whatever you have to do just DON'T SMOKE. It's hell, its hard, its crazy... It's our Quit journey, and you can do this. Take one moment at a time. Stay in the moment. Use your stubborness, use it like you've never used it in your life. This is a fight for your life. It really is. I also quit cold turkey. And when I have moments that I think about smoking, I say to myself, out loud most of the time, "If I still smoked, I would have a cigarette right now" - but, I don't smoke anymore. I don't want an oxygen tank with me later in life. I don't want to be fighting to breathe, I don't want to stink anymore. I don't want my house and car stinking. I love the freedom I have now. And ya know what? There are many times when I feel this incredible natural high... It's strange, it's interesting, it's like a taste of the most powerful and amazing freedom, and when I'm feeling that natural high, I ride it like a wave... I am in the Pacific - riding that wave like there's no tomorrow... Adam, you can do this. Hang on to yourself with EVERYTHING YOU HAVE and protect your Quit with your life, dear one. Your Quit is young, it needs protection. Hold it close, don't let it get away from you. You have made it this far, stay in the moment- don't get ahead of yourself. What you are missing here is YOU ARE DOING IT!! Blessings - breathe, breathe, breathe- Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 913 Amount Saved: $62.4 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 18 Seconds: 21

Good Morning Adam, You had said in one of your post: I really believe someone has to do something to deligitimize the sales of tobacco and stop this lethal smoking entrapment which being pushed down our throats by tobacco co. Oh how do I believe that statement. Here is a list of just a few ingredients in Cigarettes. Ammonia: Household cleaner Angelica root extract: Known to cause cancer in animals Arsenic: Used in rat poisons Benzene: Used in making dyes, synthetic rubber Butane: Gas; used in lighter fluid Carbon monoxide: Poisonous gas Cadmium: Used in batteries Cyanide: Deadly poison DDT: A banned insecticide Ethyl Furoate: Causes liver damage in animals Lead: Poisonous in high doses Formaldehiyde: Used to preserve dead specimens Methoprene: Insecticide Megastigmatrienone: Chemical naturally found in grapefruit juice Maltitol: Sweetener for diabetics Napthalene: Ingredient in mothballs Methyl isocyanate: Its accidental release killed 2000 people in Bhopal, India in 1984 Polonium: Cancer-causing radioactive element My question is how in the USA can it be legal to sell consumers a product with a list like this??? All I can figure it is the all mighty DOLLAR. ~Shelly~ Good Morning All, Thank you for all for posting. 1 Day down. It went better then I hope for. I stayed very busy. I went to the bookstore and bought Allen Carrs book on stop smoking (Ill start reading it today) and then took my 4 year old to the park to play. Then we met my husband for a late lunch. What I notice my 1st time I tried to quit is I didnt keep busy and that is when I had the hardest time. So this time around I made a list of things to do to keep me busy until my husband gets off work. For me the hardest is time is when Im alone. I dont have many friends and they ones I do have all smoke and Im not ready to be around smokers yet so that makes it kind of tough. My son was my biggest supporter, but he just graduated from collage and got a job in Calif. and moved there last week, that has been hard, I miss him. I did all the exercises in my Glove Compartment, I learned a lot and it was very helpful. I also started a journal of all the reasons I need to quit, and when it gets hard I right down all my thoughts. My mind

congrats adam its not easy but you seem to be starting witht he right frame of mind. after all it is mind over matter! in a few days you will start to notice how bad the smokers around you smell and that will help convince you even more not to cave. it has been two months for me and when the weight came and the sleepless nights i wanted to throw in the towel and use that as an excuse but i didnt this time, if you can wait the 5 to 10 minutes out until the craving passes you will be okay. An alternative is the patch it worked for me plus i knew as long as i had that on i could not smoke. best of luck My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,291 Amount Saved: $366 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 23 Mins: 33 Seconds: 46

Adam The nicotine will have physicallyleft yoor system. The withdrawl that you have from the mental part of the addiction can go on for quit some time. I will bump Shevie's post about what is happening mentally and physically. It will get better soon. I was okay after about the fourth day and then things took a turn after the third week. It is getting better now and I will be going into my 6th week on Friday. It will get better. Have a great ride. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 800 Amount Saved: $300 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 12 Mins: 29 Seconds: 30

Adam Fantastic attitude! The whole of quitting is tough. Replacing an old, unhealthy, habit with a new, healthy, habit is awesome. Stay Strong. Keep posting and letting us know how you are doing.
