My Bad...

18 years ago 0 415 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Call me crazy but I kept the rest of my unfinished pack until my husband kept running out and smoking them....they are now gone....but I really felt that having them around really meant I was choosing not to smoke them. It was playing devil's advocate a bit but it worked for me. Everyone is different. If you already smoked a half of one maybe you are a different one who should get rid of them. I have lived by n.o.p.e since Feb 12th!! I could have a carton right here and I still choose not to smoke! Like I have said before, the majority of people I am around smoke so I knew the temptation was gonna be there from the start, I just wanted to make sure I was as commited to my quit as I thought and I am! Hi Ronko, One of the hardest things I ever did was flush all of my cigs down the toilet the day I quit. I didn't really want to, but my boyfriend said it was the best way for me to be done so I did. 10 minutes later I was bawling because it was such a final thing to do. If I had any cigarettes around that first week I probably would have relapsed too. And that my friend is why you need to toss your cigs when you quit. There is just too much temptation if they are near you. Good luck to you, and remember that everyone has been at the point you are at when they first quit and we can help. Ronko, I agree with Rusty: get rid of the cigarettes and any paraphernalia. I've had to hide all of my old lovely ashtrays, and throw away the lighters, matches, etc. This is day 53 for me, and I still miss smoking. Nothing crazy, but I still think about how good a cigarette would taste every now and then. But I know that if I did have one, it would really taste awful, and I'd get dizzy and feel sick. I know this because I've quit before. So it's still one day at a time for me, and probably will be for a while yet. But not having anything related to smoking in my apartment really helps. Good luck! Ronko: You are treading in dangerous waters by doing that!!!!! It only takes one small puff to start the withdrawels all over again. We are addicts and because of that we have to remember N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) To quit smoking means to not smoke.... Hang in there.......Just prepare yourself for the next "urge to smoke" and plan what you can do instead of giving in...It will get so much easier as time goes on...It is so worth all the pain..... Ronko, in every quit I ever had, I kept an unopened pack around. It was like a security thing. In case I start getting homicidal or suicidal or go mad, I could get to my emergency kit. Now looking back I can see what it really meant to keep cigarettes around -- 1. I was scared. 2. I wasn't committed to the quit. 3. I need to know my "buddy" was close by. 4. I didn't recognize that my "buddy" was my enemy. If you have that many packs stashed away, please do some soul searching about why you want to quit and how determined you are. Remember -- no one is making you do this. You are making the choice to overcome the addiction. But the only way to succeed is to get serious. Ron, I agree with Phillip...you should do what works for you. Just always remember -- if you're going to light one, you might as well put the whole pack in your mouth and light it up. So the trick is...don't light one!
