Doing it!

Way to go Zeda! I agree with everyone else, throw that pack of smokes you have away!! I am positive if I had a pack close by I would have lit up. More then several times I almost fell off the wagon. I grabbed my keys and headed for my car, but before I started the car to run to the store, I'd take the deep breaths.....recited one of my mantras.....smoking is bad, quitting is good. Those couple of minutes saved me for sure. Going to go with this Cold Turkey and hope for the best. Been clean since Tuesday early am, and have an unopen pack my husband bought me in my drawer. Still have to work up the courage to throw it out. Main reasons for quitting: Just found out my 16 year old son in smoking. :( The Death of Dana Reeves, who did not smoke, but died of lung cancer at 44. I want to do one small thing to honor her amazing courage. Wish me luck.

Zeda Welcome to the STOP SMOKING CENTRE. Congratulations on your choice to come here and talk about quitting. All of the advice above is great. For me the most important element in all of this is JUST DON"T SMOKE!. There are a lot of posts/threads on this site look for N.O.P.E. Read, there is a host of information, knowledge and experience in all of the writing on this site. Hi Zeda, I will wish you luck although, to be honest, it is not really down to luck but rather sheer determination to succeed. You must destroy that pack, they are just too much of a temptation otherwise. I don't know if I would have made it this far if I had some hanging around the house somewhere. Zeda...... Good luck in your quit. Some advice (you'll get LOTS of that here!) 1 - Throw OUT that pack of smokes. But first, soak it in the sink, and then POUND the soggy mess with a hammer. That way you won't be tempted and have your son watch as you do it. 2 - If you are new to this site, use the tools on the left of the screen - follow the path, and have a very strong reason for your quit. Make it personal. Make it matter. It should be something that you can conjure up in your mind while you are craving a cigarette. Something strong enough to override the urges, and prevent you from relapsing. 3 - Use this site. Read and post. There are other sites dedicated to helping you quit smoking. Read them too. Read as much as you can about smoking, what it does to the body, what it does to others. Become educated, so when you have days where all you think about is smoking, you can stop those thoughts in their tracks with some educated logic. 4 - Trust yourself. Be confident you can do this. Think positively. Attitude is everything in a quit. You have started the right way......we can help you, if you let us... CONGRATULATIONS..........!!!! Hi Zeda, Throw that pack away. It will take more courage to stay quit with it in the house, than it will take to throw it out. Make things easier on yourself. Zeda..no need to hope for the best. Have your husband or your son throw out that unopened pack. You don't need it because you don't smoke. Be sure to check out the program tools to the left. They will help you through your quit journey. Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to our little Quit Family! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 252 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,046 Amount Saved: $882 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 5 Mins: 41 Seconds: 30

Zeda, Welcome to the SSC. Quitting because your son has started smoking is noble, but you really need to quit just for yourself. When you do that, you will be 100% committed and your quit won't be determined by others actions. Get rid of the smokes. Have a little ceremony. Douse then with water and then either into the garbage or down the toilet. Wave bye-bye to them and your addiction. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart.
