***dragging up two chairs, setting them facing each other*** Have a seat, Bambi. ***we both sit. I lean forward and look you in the eye*** You are not a failure. A failure would have given up, gone away never to be seen or heard from again. You are here confessing and looking for support. That makes you a winner. This is not a battle, Bambi. This is a full-blown war made up of many, many battles. Some are big. Some are small skirmishes. Some we lose, but many we win. The latter are the most important ones, but the ones we lose are also important in their own way. Those are the ones that teach us our weak spots, teach us where the holes in our defenses are. Sometimes, some of us enter this war not fully prepared. We find it much more than we expected and it takes us by surprise. A few rare ones are able to muscle through to victory, but most end up falling back to regroup. There is no shame in that as long as it is a regrouping and not a running from the field.
I am already having to clear my throat and that is only after a few cigs
That should give you your answer to whether you go back to smoking full time or get back on the wagon. The longer you delay, the more you smoke, the harder it will be. The more you drink, the harder it will be. Drinking lowers our inhibitions and our ability to control ourselves. Don't let depression and despair over losing one battle cause you to lose the war, Bambi. You made it almost 7 weeks. At the risk of sounding like my own echo, that is an awesome accomplishment. You need to believe that because it's true. I would wish you luck, but luck has nothing to do with it. Instead, I wish you strength. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 329 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,596 Amount Saved: $1250.2 Life Gained: Days: 61 Hrs: 11 Mins: 41 Seconds: 25

Hi Bambi, You said... "Most of the time it is ok, i can cope but when it gets like it did yesterday, i just could not stand it any more. I just hope next time it gets like that (cus i know it will) i will be able to ride out the storm." It's too bad you couldn't get through the storm yesterday :( I was afraid of that when I read about the beer. But it's awesome that you're showing determination and the will to really want to quit by jumping right back to your quit!!! WOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!! U should be really proud of yourself! :) I know I'm not the only one in here happy to see that you're not giving up :) So now that you know you weren't prepared to get through that storm you can figure out what you'll need to do or not do in order to make it through the next storm. Prepare yourself cuz you see just how hard it can be. Self-honesty is one of the best ways to arm yourself :) Coming in here posting and reading helps :) Calling a friend, going to the book store, crying, praying, lock yourself in the house, etc. Physically it only takes 15 min's for a crave to go away. The emotional part is the tricky part. Crying is very healing and will help you to grow up emotionally. If u need a substance to get through a storm, I don't suggest alcohol/beer cuz it will lessen your odds of staying quit and that's not a good thing, lol. If u must intake of something try jelly beans, ice cream, something/anything that u really enjoy :) Or go shopping to reward yourself for the time you have smoke-free. You might want to think twice about restarting your meter,,,it's a personal thing and you have every right to leave it as is. Nobody can ever take away the time u had smoke-free :) Remember self-honesty will keep you smoke-free. I'm so happy to hear the good news that you jumped right back in there on your quit :) No matter what don't lite up... Keep on keepin on... Cherie

Good 4u Bambi, 1st for not going in after an agonizing 30 min's and 2nd for coming in here and telling on that stupid old junkie messing with you! Next time come in here before u make your plan to go buy some! U could have avoided all that :) Everybody in here understands exactly what u went through. I've done that,,,sit outside the store thing too, lol. Yes, it's hard sometimes and can really really suck! And u know what, u just don't smoke, no matter what! Cuz this isn't a game, it's a life & death decision. This isn't a dress rehersal, this is your life you're saving by quitting smoking. U should be really really proud of yourself and your 48 days!!! WOOHOOOOOOOO!!! If u "THINK" u won't make it then you're probably right cuz we usually end up doing something if we think it enough :( :( :( But thank GOD it's not too late for you to change your way of thinking for the positive! U CAN DO IT :) The 1st 3 mos. can be really difficult but YOUR ATTITUDE will pull u through :) The proofs in the puddin,,,you really want to quit,,,that's why u didn't give in and that's why you came in here for help :) Have u checked out the thread "Group Promise"? Anyhow,,,please don't give up now, you've come too far and you're summer will be much better without them. My quit date was in Feb. like yours :) If you pray, ask GOD to help you :) He will :) No matter what don't lite up... Keep on keepin on... I want to re-inforce what Shevie said about the drinking part of quitting smoking. You don't have to be an alcoholic (like me) for alcohol to mess up your quit. After only 1 beer "your judgement" is altered. So that should tell u not to drink for awhile, maybe even the 1st 3mos of your quit or more if needed. Quitting smoking is a life and death choice. If you have a problem not drinking for 3 mos I would suggest an AA meeting. Going on 10 yrs sober this month, I have experience in this area. If you ever wondered if you have a drinking problem it's easy to figure out but harder to admit. There's absolutely NO FINE LINE,,,you're either a social drinker or an alcoholic, period. Anyhow,,,back to quitting smoking,,,alcohol can ruin a quit, we've seen it happen in here and it's been a topic of discussion in the past. Bambi I hope u enjoyed your beers and they didn't lead u back to the cig's. Please let us know if you're still smoke-free or if you slipped and bumped your head, lol. Either way we'll all still support you :) Just don't disappear from here :) No matter what don't lite up... Keep on keepin on... What a truly awesome thread! Shevie, you are (as Ive said before) THE MAN! Bambi, so glad youre back to the quit. You WILL win. While you were sitting in the car the other night deciding whether to buy cigarettes or not, what did you do? You need a plan. I printed off several excellent posts from SSC, my reasons for quitting, and my childrens photos carried them everywhere. Anytime I even considered smoking, I pulled them out and read them. It works really. Not cravin', never cavin'.
