So much good advice. Quit for you. Don't wait for some magical moment to quit. Right now you are a committed smoker and I don't think it matters how many years you have smoked. Smoking isn't like eating prunes. You can't wonder if two is enough or ten is too many. You must make a choice to not spark up the next cig and keep making that choice until it becomes part of your lifestyle. It's really pretty simple.....being a non-smoker just means not smoking. We all are ADDICTED to cigarettes. For me that addiction was stronger than anything else I can think of....love, faith, whatever...got pushed to the side when I needed a nicotine fix. That is the battle you are going to have to fight. Are you ready? If so....get set and GO! Sounds like you've made some good decisions, Christian Girl. Some of our members are also members of other boards as well. I've looked at some others and, frankly, none come close to this one for honest and caring support. And the moderators do a great job of keeping us all on track. This is a wonderful group of people and we're glad you decided to join us. Looking forward to your quit. Hi, Christian Girl. Welcome to the SSC. Quitting smoking is the most wonderful thing you can ever do for you. It's also most likely the hardest thing you will ever do. But it can be done and you can do it (I know these things, lol). The hardest and scariest part for many is just setting a date and doing it. Nicotine is a drug of addiction, just like heroin and cocaine. That addicted part of your brain is going to do whatever it can to maintain itself. Your job is to teach it to live life again without the nicotine. I strongly suggest you work through this site's Online Quit Program. There's a ton of useful information and tips there. Read all you can on quitting, both here and elsewhere. Post, ask questions. When the day comes, stay close. Let us know how you're doing and how we can help. Jump on in...the water is fine, unless you are not preparing yourself for the splunge. I used 21mg for 4 weeks, 14 mg for 4 weeks and lastly, 7mg for 4 weeks. Never looked back and have not smoked in over 1,650 days. How do we do it...again, preparation. Another thing I will share with you is that I would not think about it to long because the junkster if working overtime now to see that you do not quit. Please read a few of the success stories under the Hall of Fame button on the left. Mind included and you will see that after 46 years of tobacco, being a tobacco auctioneer and having a predisposition to nicotine because of my mother, I did it. You can too. Set a firm date and let us walk you through this journey. Start with the date and then the 6 mile journey to your left. Study all the program tools and community subjects available. Please remember that the patch, although a miracle for me, is no silver bullet. The silver bullet is in your inner self to stop and improve who you are. You mentioned you were a christian lady. Excellent, it don't get no better than having the big guy on your side during such times as these. Please develop a coping bag of tools, drop to your knees when needed, and reley on the fact that God, this site, the patch, and these members are your formula for success after you prep yourself. Good luck and congrats' Lindsey (a christian man) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/10/2001 Smoke-Free Days: 1651 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 99,098 Amount Saved: $16510 Life Gained: Days: 340 Hrs: 19 Mins: 8 Seconds: 37

Remember that quitting is a 'choice'....not a sentence. Don't look to far down the road...deal with the present. As a christian I worry more about my life today than tomorrow....just make the choice to NOT smoke as you go. The patches are a good aide....use them as directed and they become a 'weaning tool'. change your routine when you quit....if you smoked while on the computer (I did this too) clean the desk...have hard candies and straws to suck and chew on....drink lots of icey cold water. When it gets to be too much take a spin out and around the house and then start over again. Talk to yourself outloud. Keep your thinking as positive as possible!! and there's no time like the present for quitting! there will always be a reason to delay it Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1535 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 61,413 Amount Saved: $8442.5 Life Gained: Days: 200 Hrs: 6 Mins: 17 Seconds: 48
