I slipped

Jan- if someone who had a cigarette was around me today, I might be joining you in this. You'll get no judgment from me. I will tell you that when you get past a couple of weeks, that thought of lighting up will become less enticing in that you'll be throwing away a lot of intensity for nothing. This is a major benefit of the quit meter. You'll see what I mean and you will think of me when you get there. Not because I'm such a brilliant writer and supportive person (all sarcasm, believe me), but because of the energy you've invested in this quit. I know you will. That's why we all advertize it with almost every post. We have to convince ourselves that we can do it and believe me, I have to use everything available to do it. The patch has helped- use it. Take one off and put one on every day same time. Go for the 2 week mark and then go on from there. It's true what these folks say about these little landmarks. JanA, Glad you realize that it was a lapse in judgement.. that's the important part. Sounds like your co-workers are beating you up enough for this.. so I won't.. Forget it.. I have already.. Hell week will be over soon.. then it's on to heck week..(same but easier)... Don't look to smoke to solve anything.. next time.. do ANYTHING ELSE !! You can do this !! JanA... well congratulations on jumping right back on the quit wagon. Quitting isn't easy but don't flirt with disaster. It only takes one puff to send you right back to the very beginning. You were almost through Hell week. Each time you let the addiction win, it makes it that much harder to be successful. Protect your quit at all costs. You said the only way to calm yourself down was to smoke. Well you need to lose that thinking right away. You will have to find other ways to calm yourself down because this is Life. Stuff happens. You can kick, scream, cry, yell, laugh, break dishes, punch a pillow, whatever it takes but there is no smoking allowed in a quit. NOPE Not One Puff Ever is how we all quit. You can do it to. You gave in..next time prove to yourself how strong you are. Each situation you make it through smoke free makes you that much stronger for the next. Take it one step at a time. JanA, Glad you're back on the quit. First, I think you need to have a talk with whoever gave you that cigarette (and any other smoking friends you know) and tell them no matter how much you beg, they are NOT to give you a cigarette!!!
I could say I am sorry, but sorry won't help me quit...only determination will.
You never have to apologize to us. You're the only one that hurts by your smoking. Just remember that. Next, I think that whether you reset your meter or not is completely up to you. I don't think it really matters... what matters is that you quit and quit for good. I hope that you have done that. Next, I want to talk about your coping strategies. Those are things that you will do INSTEAD of smoking when you're stressed, having a bad day or are in a generally bad mood. Up until now, smoking has most likely been your only coping strategy. Now, we have to learn new ones. Have you made a list of things you will do instead of smoking when things get hard? If not, you should. Gum, long walk, deep breaths, exercise, punch a pillow, etc... come up with a list of coping strategies that will work for you and then USE THEM!!! Until you can cope with life without a cigarette, you will be a smoker who is not smoking. When you are finally able to face life without a cigarette is when you finally become an ex-smoker. Are you there yet? I hope so. Crave the Quit! Hey Everyone, Yes I slipped, I know I should have come here and posted, but I had such a bad day at work...and lost it that the only way I could calm myself down was a smoke. So that is the bad news, at first the junkie in me thought.... So you failed...whoop dee doo... go buy a pack of cigarettes...but the quitter in me said.. NO WAY.. this is a bump in the road to my success. I know I slipped, I know I did wrong, but I came home, drove right by my normal store, and said no. Matter of fact the guy that gave me the smoke this afternoon said You want one for the drive home, I said NO .. I am going home and putting a new patch on and going to put this slip in the back of my mind. I could say I am sorry, but sorry won't help me quit...only determination will. So onward and upward is the only way I can go. I am NOT throwing these past 5 days away ..not because on one lousy lapse in my judgement. Jan PS I have decided to not change my quit meter...because I am a quitter and I will stay quit...this is my vow to me and anyone who asks...and my butt hurts..cause not only have I been kicking it..but all my 'eyes' have been too... all my non-smoking coworkers have held true to thier promises :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 57 Amount Saved: $44.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 12 Mins: 24 Seconds: 22
