Does it ever really get better??

Lala, The first three weeks are the hardest, you're almost there. I was interested in what you said...
Zyban has taken me from a smoker to a nonsmoker.
Be strong.... it is 'YOU' that has taken yourself to a non-smoker, yes it gets easier & no we shure as hell don't miss anything about it. We all see the Anti-smoking groups & Governments implementing no-smoking laws & working towards a total world-wide ban on smoking. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in our lifetime, they are very very determined. That is how seriously bad this smoking thing is ! The country i live seems to be leading the way & imposes some very strict laws regarding no smoking in public places etc, . Smokers will have to quit sooner or later. I'm only glad i've had the opportunity to quit sooner & not later against my will. Have a good look around, you'll find a lot of help here. Lala...Congratulations on your 18 day quit. I battled with a lot of depression early on in my quit and felt like no one understood or cared. We do understand Lala. Quitting is so hard. It is probably the hardest thing you will ever do. But it is also very rewarding. I know you don't see it now but there is life after smoking and it is a good life. I felt like I had lost my best friend when I quit smoking and in reality I lost my crutch. I have since taken my life back from the horrible addiction! I was enslaved to smoking. It controlled everything I did. It was the most important thing in the world to me. Not anymore. I live life now. Quitting is a journey. The road is rough along the way. We are here to help you through those tough spots. Hang in there. 18 days is awesome and you don't want to have to start all over again. You are on your way to freedom. Give yourself permission to live. No smoking allowed. Lala, First of all, yes it DOES get better. Right now, you're in blah week... it's sort of just an up-down-up-down sort of feeling and you don't really see the light at the end of the tunnel. I promise you that the light is there! Yes, it most certainly gets better. There IS life after quitting!!!! Second, you need to look at this like N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. IF you give yourself permission to fail, it could quite possibly turn into a self-fulfilling profesy... do you REALLY want to go through those 18 days again?!?!?!?! Of course not! You've fought hard and long for those 18 days! So protect them!!! They're very precious and worth a lot of sweat and tears!!! I promise you Laly, it WILL get better. Every single one of us on this site has or is going through what you're going through... and many of us are here on the other side to tell you that it is possible to be comfortable in your quit. Just hang on and you'll experience it too!!! Crave the Quit! This is a tough one as it comes from a male point of view. Does it ever get better? For me it did, I can't tell you exactly when it happned but it did happen. I woke up one day and it was gone, the itch, craving, empty feeling or whatever. Smoking has taken its toll on all of us and recovery is a process of healing both mind and body. Attitude is 90 % of freeing yourself from addiction. Have the will and determination to see it through, you can win. I want to leave you with a quote that really helped me to focus during my quit:
"Many of life's failures are people tho did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up" Thomas Edison
Duffis duffis's Quit Stats Since Sunday, February 13, 2005, I've been smoke-free for: 1 Year(s), 5 Days, 8 Hours, 2 Minutes, 7 Seconds. I have saved $1,554.00 by not smoking 11110 cigarettes. By not smoking I have added 80 Days, 5 Hours, 28 Minutes, 8 seconds. to my life expectancy.

It will get better as the days and weeks and months go by and your smell returns just in time for all the spring flowers. Your skin will get a healthy glow and your energy level will go up and you'll feel years younger. Once in a rare moon you will have a fleeting thought of one but it will pass by so fast you won't even remember it. You can do it!
