Getting Ready for Tomorrow!!!

IslandGirl . . . THANK YOU!!! I'm feeling pretty good now. I'm feeling strong again. I'm starting to visualize . . . the cigarettes are the enemy. Each cigarette I smoke represents a time in my life when I felt weak and powerless. WHY would I want to hang on to that? I will be here tomorrow A.M. kicking all of that into the past. One day . . . I need ONE DAY! Losing is NOT an option. Thanks, IslandGirl!! I'm so impressed with your Quit Meter . . . keep it going! :-) Kendall

Ladybugg . . . I loved that!!! :-) :-) What a great mental image for me! Wanted to let everyone know I'm doing really well. I actually quit yesterday evening at about 6:30 P.M. As some of you suggested, I used my son for support. He does not have much empathy for my struggle, but he was disgusted enough to remove anything related to smoking from the house and follow me around all evening. I thought I would lose my mind!! I won't lie to this wonderful group. I had an emergency pack (or two) hidden in my car. He found them, and I don't know where they went. So I ran/worked out last night . . . but no cigarette at the end. I'm not feeling well physically. My stomach hurts, I couldn't sleep. I just feel lousy. Mentally, though, I'm feeling good! Hope everyone is having a great day! I hope you lose that cold soon, Ladybugg! 4my2girls . . . thanks for the advice. I'm here with my water now. I hadn't realized how difficult this was going to be. It's tough. I'm still here, though. At 6:30 P.M. I will be at the 24-hr. mark. I am looking forward to at least getting the nicotine out of my body! I hope you are doing well. Thank you for reaching out! Ladybugg . . . my son can be pretty hard on me. ;-) I'm hanging in there today. I will have made it through 24 hrs. at 6:30 P.M. I honestly didn't realize how terrible my body would feel. I slept for awhile this morning, which has thrown my schedule off a bit. Basically, I'm in a kind of "daze." I don't feel like myself, and I certainly don't feel well. Very irritable as well. Just had my mother on the phone, and I should apologize. She called to say "hello," and I about took her head off. I hope you are doing well today! Thank you for your support!! Yes, that's exactly it. I try to run to be healthy, then ruin it by smoking at the end. What a way to do it! I'll feel my chest starting to hurt when running, I'll cough a little, I'll HURT . . . but the cigarette is waiting patiently for me at the end. And boy do I need it! I mean, it's been almost an hour!! I'm looking forward to running and actually feeling GOOD afterwards! No smoking . . . just some water, maybe a snack, a pat on the back. :-) Won't that be great?! Your Quit Meter looks fantastic! Keep it up!! I can't wait until mine looks like that. Thanks again. :-) Kendall

Ladybugg . . . oh my, you said "straws" for the home office, not "licorice sticks!" I'm dreaming of licorice. hahaha I tend to grind my teeth when stressed (another terrible habit which causes headaches). Perhaps a combo of straws and licorice? Thanks again. Kendall

Ladybugg . . . thanks so much for your vote of confidence and your support! :-) And thank you for these suggestions! I DO like chocolate! Since I'm exercising, perhaps a few bites of chocolate won't hurt my weight that much. Cheese? I'm with you. That doesn't sound especially appealing for an after-run treat. ;-) Chocolate, though . . . that's a thought! I'm also going to take your advice with the licorice sticks (no fat). What a wonderful idea! More water, less coffee. Thanks again, Ladybugg!! Have a wonderful day! Kendall

4my2girls . . . THANK YOU! I appreciate your support, and I envy your Quit Meter. :-) Rewards . . . I'll have to give this some thought. I hate to cook, so maybe eating out here and there? I will try to plan some rewards. Thanks for helping me see how important this will be. Kendall

Hi, Melanie . . . thanks so very much for trying to help! I have been unable to open the zip files included in the Quit Program Workbook but did find a Workbook through the American Cancer Society. I'm guessing the strategies are fairly similar? I see I really should make a stop at the grocery store tonight! Also planning on devoting more time to my exercise program, which is, right now, pretty "loose." Again, thank you, Melanie! I'm motivated, excited, but also realistic. I know this will be hard. I know I will experience physical and psychological symptoms. I know I have to get through these with my willpower and try to maintain a positive attitude. I'm going to do something wonderful for myself. :-) Kendall

Ok . . . here I am stressing like crazy. Tomorrow is my "quit day," and I feel very helpless. Is this normal? I'm smoking, but I switched over to a brand I don't like. Still, I'm smoking. I keep telling everyone that if they stopped distributing MY brand of cigarettes, I would quit. Probably this hasn't been true at all. I'm addicted. I'm stocked up on water and am thinking about buying some of my favorite hard candy (Butterscotch). If anyone has any other suggestions, PLEASE let me know. I've been unable to open my Quit Program Workbook, so I'm relying on the knowledge I gain from all of your e-mails. :-) For the past several weeks, I've been exercising several times a week (running and lifting small weights). That hasn't stopped my cravings, believe it or not. I'll run 4 miles and want a cigarette immediately following the run. In fact, I think about smoking while I'm running . . . and the cigarette at the end appears to be my reward. How will I change this reward? Any ideas? Not much money, so I can't buy myself a new pair of shoes each time I run. :-) My son is excited that I'm going to quit. He is very fitness-oriented. I don't know where he came from. ;-) Perhaps he was "switched" at birth. Nah . . . he's too stubborn not to be mine. I'm rambling (sorry) because I'm becoming so very nervous. I work from home, and my office is my "smoke area." This makes quitting even more challenging. Thanks for hanging in there with me, Everyone! Hope everyone is doing well today! Kendall
