Well done! the first feew hours and days are tough, I don't think that you need tell anyone on this site about that. So give yourself a pat on the back for keeping at it. Just come here if you need any help or inspiration. Patch, welcome and YOU CAN DO IT... We are all here for you. It's not going to be easy and you know that. If it was then we wouldn't need this site, and we would have quit long time ago instead of saying we belong to the 30 yr. group. The first 3 days are the roughest, stay close, post, sleep, exercise, go some place where you can't smoke. What ever it takes CAUSE YOU CAN DO IT. You are doing great and we are all with you Laurie ^I^ My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 810 Amount Saved: $160 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 16 Mins: 57 Seconds: 54

Patch, it sounds crazy, but try to not focus on your craving. Distract yourself, do something you wouldn't (before) have smoked during.......like go to the theatre, shopping, etc. Actual craves only last 3 minutes. The rest of the 23hrs and 57minutes is called "junkie thinking" where part of you is trying to convince the other part that smoking "wasn't that bad" or that "this isnt' worth it". It's amazing what kind of weird thoughts we can come up with to convince ourselves to suck on a tightly rolled tube of leaves and chemicals! I'll bump up a few threads on Junkie thoughts. That may help put things into perspective for you. Hang tough and good luck! My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 920 Amount Saved: $411.75 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 12 Mins: 58 Seconds: 0

Hi Tom, I'm glad it went well for you at work. I know that has been one of the more difficult things for me to handle. Some days I don't even want to take a break at work, because now that I don't smoke there doesn't seem to be a reason to take one. 71 hours is great! Where's your quit meter? Keep in touch with us. Hi Patch, It's nice to meet you. So far so good. I'm glad that you didn't give in to having an Ol' Stinky Stick after your accident. See, you CAN handle a stressful situation without one. The Nicodemon whispers in your ear that you need him, you can't do anything right without him. But, that is THE big lie. You do not NEED to smoke. You may Want to, but it's all about choices. I am happy you have chosen to come here instead of smoking. Keep Strong, it really does get better for you soon. Just hold on, we will be here when you need us. Patch, I think you deserve a reward. Look how far you've come and you conquered a MAJOR trigger! You now know (as does your addiction) than you can get through a very stressful situation without a smoke. Good fr you!!!!! How about a Chai Latte or a wonderful bubble bath?
