Walking the dog is a huge trigger for me. It's also the time when my wife and I do a lot of our catching up. She's still smoking and walking the dog alone. The dog won't go for me, but I will try when she starts her quit. I think (hoping) she'll start when I hiot 30 days. Any way you can "re-"occupy yourself is helpful. For example, I drive a lot in my job and did much of my smoking in the car, while quitting I used the travel time to learn to play harmonica. It gave my hands something to do and made me focus on my breathing. By the time you read this you should be just about done hell week. Just a word of warning, heck week can be tough too. Stay strong! Matt, hang in there! I know how hard it can be, we all know. You did the right thing posting here. You ask yourself "Why not just one?" The answer is , It will not help you feel any better. It WILL make you feel worse. You will feel bad about yourself, and that will weaken your resolve to staying quit. You are heading for day 4, that is awesome. You don't want to fail this time. You CAN do this! It sounds like a cliche, but it really helps to just get through 1 minuite at a time, 1 day at a time. Keep Strong Matt. Let us know how you feel after your drive. Hi, Matt. I know a fellow who got hit by an "I'll kill anything between me and a cig" crave once. He had his wife drive him around on the freeways (we have loops here) until it passed. That took all the control away from him; all he could do was go along for the ride. The crave will pass; they always do. You're pretty much nicotine free now. The last thing in the world you want is to put more in. That will just make these craves last longer. Hope you took your driver's license. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 270 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,412 Amount Saved: $1026 Life Gained: Days: 50 Hrs: 10 Mins: 41 Seconds: 21

Glad you made it through that crave...and now you have officially exceeded all your previous quits, right? Keep that in mind when the next time comes :) Great job and be prepared for next week! hey matt, i sure hope you still just driving! while you were driving did you notice how much better you can smell everything? you've been through three days of hell and you need a break. but not a break form the quit. this is one reason why rewards are so important. YOU"VE MADE IT 3 WHOLE DAYS!! You deserve not just a pat on the back, but a nice reward! It's time to rewire those circuits. Nicotine reward the pleasure centers in the brain so your brain thought it got a reward every time you smoked. Now you need to re-train yourself....you get a reward for NOT smoking. It can be something small...like an hour to take pleasure in something you haven't had time for or splurging on a starbucks coffee. hang on tight matt...it is sooo worth it! we CAN do this! Matt, Keep Strong! What are you using for coping mechanisms? What are you doing to distract yourself? Make a list if you have to and keep it close. This will be beneficial to your quit. You can do this :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
