Sounds like you are in full blown withdrawal right now CS. Is it possible to take a nap? If you can sleep it will help. If not you need a distraction. Can you go somewhere? A mall or bookstore. (Anywhere that you have never smoked before) OR Stay in here and keep posting. When I was near where you are I started a thread called "The Angry Place." I quit cold turkey so I can't advise about the patch. Nevertheless, I DO KNOW this will not last forever. Stay strong! Push through it! You can do this. Most all of us have been through times like this. Heya :) I like your name. CS~Whatever your reason for considering quitting there is one thing you must know. Unless you are truly ready to turn your back on your love affair with smoking there is no reason to try. But if you are genuinely ready to conquer your weakness to cigarettes and you want to make this quit your last then make it easier on yourself by using positive self-talk. You deserve it! You want to live don't ya? You know you are at a tough stage right now (3 days) Try to change your focus from what you cannot do to what you can do, from what you miss to what you have, and from the difficulties you're mired in to the opportunities they offer. Since we become what we think about, it is essential that we focus on the right things. ~all the best N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 179 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,954 Amount Saved: $895 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 1 Mins: 24 Seconds: 40

Hey chicken, Do you remember saying this:
I decided Saturday night at 2am that I was just tired of smoking. I told my husband I was done and I haven't picked up a cigarette. This is the first time I have attempted to quit because I wanted to. I don't feel that cigarettes should have that much control over my life. I still go back to the smoke room with my husband when he smokes and really it doesn't bother me. I have started the 14mg patches rather than the 21mg and they seem to be working perfectly. I feel like this is easy...could it be the worst is yet to come?
or this:
I like the fact I quit smoking and I want to keep it that way.
Don't you find it somewhat sad that you consider smoking a "treat" and cigarettes your "friends"!!?? That tobacco has such a hold on you that you feel "obsessed" with cigarettes? Most of us here have been through the stage where we "miss" cigarettes, and we feel like something is missing from our lives, it's a part of quitting that we just have to get through. And you CAN get through it. Cigarettes are NOT your friends. Joe Camel is not anyone's friend. He blackens your lungs and the lungs of those around you, entices young teenagers to become hooked on nicotine, his only real friends are lung-disease, heart-disease, cancer, the government, emphysema etc. You can do it, we can help, but you have to read a LOT and try to understand the truth about smoking. As one of the Great Ones says "Knowledge is Power". Hi ChickenStix, I hope this doesn't sound like a lecture, but it probably will. But I hope you will take it in the spirit it is intended -- advice from an old quitter trying to help you. As long as you dwell on cigarettes as your friends, as long as you give them cute names, you will have difficulty making the addictive part of your brain let go. It is very important that you look at addiction square in the face for what it is -- the big lie that cigarettes are your friends. They are a way of covering the truth and hiding what's real. I hope that you will begin to embrace your quit instead of hanging on to what you think you loved. In reality, what you loved was the hit that gave you relief from your cravings every 20 minutes. I also hope in your quitting process that you will learn, like so many of us have, that there is a Real Me in there that is always with you that doesn't have to hide and that is truly always with you through your rough times. No one can take that away from you. Good luck! Believe me....the thing you are missing isn't any "treat"....it's the "fix" that your addiction desires. Your "ole friend" is the enemy....it's dirty, disgusting and deadly....it's also a master of lies.....and that's why you believe it's was a friend and smoking was a so called treat. For years you have been 'hiding' behind a smoke screen....using nicotine to help you handle life's problems.....this observation isn't meant as criticism or a lecture.....I did the exact same thing myself.....I thought I really had control of my life....smoking was something I LOVED. When I finally reached the point in my addiction that I could think of nothing but lighting the next one, I began to see the truth about what being a nicotine junky really is about. There is no more praising the demon for me now. In the end, nothing will take the place of smoking unless you WANT it to.....and a quitter who continues to romance the addiction will usually give in and let it take back the control. I hope you realize this and really SEE what smoking is.. :) Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1503 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60,150 Amount Saved: $8266.5 Life Gained: Days: 196 Hrs: 3 Mins: 27 Seconds: 7

My thoughts are that you are into cold turkey so hang on and go for it......of course if you are 'really' going to cave, then starting on the patches would be a better choice. I used patches....I never thought I could handle cold turkey.....you ARE handling it though.....bad as you feel, YOU are still in control. Get that anger and determination to working FOR you....this addiction is something to direct the anger at. IT is the reason for how you are filling.....the junky in you is doing it!! Get determined to beat him! I was a b***h for several weeks....the kids called me Sybil  It's also ok to feel sad and emotional....let it out....soak in a hot tub and bawl your eyes out....the put on lots of lotions, grab a book and a treat and your favorite blankie. Be GOOD to yourself. Do ANYthing that will feel good....but remember....smoking is NOT an option. Hang tough....you will never be sorry. and the way to feeling better is a rough road the first week....but it DOES get better! katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1503 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60,152 Amount Saved: $8266.5 Life Gained: Days: 196 Hrs: 3 Mins: 31 Seconds: 42
