Treadmills, Are They Good Or Evil?

redrosie...I have a bike. I got it cheap at the flea market. I figured I could use it and watch TV at the same time. Problem is, I don't watch TV. :) I used it for a while. It became a great clothes hanger for a while and now it has finally made it's way to the back deck so I don't have to dust it anymore. :p I'm sure if you have time and discipline it will be great for you. I even have exercise tapes that help and don't take up as much room. Those I do use occasionally. Hi redrosie. I enjoyed your post. Very entertaining! :) I agree with the above comments regarding treadmills and walking. I personally think they are excellent. Walking is one of the best kinds of exercise you can do, because it is low impact (easier on the knees), and yet quite effective. I have a NordicTrack Walk-Fit, and try to use it every day. I have lost around 6 to 8 pounds over the last couple of months doing nothing more than walking an extra 1-1/2 to 3 miles per day on the Walk-Fit, and being a little careful with the diet. Good luck!
I have to say it really made me realize just how out of shape I am.
See, Rosie? There's your answer. They are evil! :8o: It does get easier. One rut to avoid is not pushing yourself. It's easy to reach a point that seems to be an accomplishment, then just staying there. I've been using one at the gym and was quite pleased with myself, telling me how good I was doing. Then the doctor gave me a stress test on one and I found out just how little I really had been doing. Oinkoink2u, when I smoked my heart rate was often in that range just sitting watching TV. Maybe that's why I weighed less back then? JK! Lady, I've been on my stationary cycle, 2 times a day, 15 minutes each. I haven't lost a thing, as I don't have a scale, but am going to continue and keep my fingers crossed. Dang it, it sure is harder taking off the inches then putting them on. :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 296 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,932 Amount Saved: $1480 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 8 Mins: 7 Seconds: 18

Hi red, I dont have a treadmill but I did do allot of walking when I quit and still do, this is my story, maybe it will help. I do believe that walking is one of the BEST forms of exercise for you. The week before I quit smoking I went on one of those soup diets and lost 6 lbs (I think, long time ago now) It got me to eating healthy and snacking on veggies. So when I quit I started watching calories and exercising. I bought allot of low fat foods, low sugar candies to eat and REALLY tried NOT to replace my smoking with food. I quit in April so the weather was good, I walked 2 miles in the morn and 2 at night, plus I rode my bike whenever I could. Hubby and I did allot of seadooing since it was so hot last summer and I know that helped (swam allot in the Niagara River) This winter I have worked out with DVD's and I have an exercise bike, plus I walk when the weather allows. It has been a long hard journey but one that I am proud of. I also got a new job, its like a whole new me It can be done (diet and quit) but I am telling you it was HARD, but it is WORTH it!!!!
