This craving is now 3 hours long and counting.

Arwensmom, Hang in there! You are 8 days closer to never feeling this way ever again! The craving WILL pass! I agree with Missyfit and Rusty that you should try to get out and go somewhere and distract yourself from this as much as you can. You're winning this battle! It might not seem like it right now, but you ARE winning! Congratulations on 8 days! Crave the Quit! I am sorry to hear you are having such a bad time, but you CAN do this, stop dwelling on the smoking. I talked to a counselor who told me its ok to think about smoking just like you would think you are hungry or tired. So think about it and let it go, don't analyze it so much. If you were hungry or tired you wouldnt analyze that to death so dont do it with the smoking. Take it one min at a time and work at THINKING about SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!! If you smoke you are going to blow a VERY good quit and then you are going to feel even worse than you do now. ArwensMom, I think Rusty's idea is a good one. If you took off a day or two...I believe you'd find that your customers are more understanding than you realize. Again, have you considered another method of quitting? Considered talking with your doctor? If you can't speak with your doctor...what about the patch? It would ease you down a little at a time. Maybe that would be more tolerable. ArwensMom, I'm really not sure what to say to you. While I know what you're going through, I also hear a lot of self doubt but you can do this. You don't have to be petrified of anything. It's all doable. Most of it is up to you though. Have you considered speaking with your doctor? Also, I believe on another thread you mentioned using lozenges... are you using them as directed? You could consider the patch. I know on the other thread that you were concerned about getting too much nicotene in comparison to smoking but in reality, you'd be getting much less. I'm not try to talk you into any particular methods of quitting. I just want you to realize that there are options that may be suited better to you and your lifestyle. You just have to make up your mind that this is what you want and go for it :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 371 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,429 Amount Saved: $1324.47 Life Gained: Days: 39 Hrs: 7 Mins: 56 Seconds: 35

You don't have to leave. Just try stepping outside the door for a minute or two. Get some fresh air... shake it off... regroup. Try to imagine how you'd feel if you blew your quit. You'd just be angry and upset with yourself. Don't forget how far you've come. You certainly don't want to lose this progress. At 20 minutes - Your blood pressure, pulse rate, and the temperature of your hands and feet returned to normal. At 8 hours - Your blood oxygen level increased to normal and carbon monoxide levels dropped to normal. At 24 hours - Your risk of a heart attack decreased by 50%. At 48 hours - Damaged nerve endings started to regrow and your sense of smell and taste began to return to normal. At 72 hours - Your entire body would test 100% nicotine-free and over 90% of all nicotine metabolites have now passed from your body via your urine. Your bronchial tubes began to relax thus making it easier to breathe. Your lung capacity also started to increase. Now THAT's progress! The feelings you're having aren't for nothing... there's much more you're working towards. At 10 days to 2 weeks - Your brain and body will have physically adjusted to again functioning without nicotine and the more than 3,500 chemical particles and 500 gases present in each and every puff. At 3 weeks to 3 months - Your circulation will substantially improve. Walking will become easier. Your chronic cough, if any, will likely disappear. Your overall lung function will improve up to thirty percent. Keep on goin', you can get through this. Let us know how you're doing. Hi ArwensMom, Is there any way you can get outside?...or just change your surroundings? Instead of focusing on "this will pass"... try total distraction. How's the junk drawer in the kitchen? lol Don't throw away those 8 days...you've just cleared hell week! I know it seems like forever...but it really will pass. Hang tough! You won't go crazy. No one has ever died or gone crazy from withdrawal from nicotine addiction. You can get through it...a whole bunch of folks have and you can, too. Missyfit is right...change your surroundings, do something different. Go for a walk. Take a tub bath. Go shopping, my personal favorite. Rusty
