I need som help...somebody yell at me!

Pop Quiz: If you cut your hand would you A. Bandage it and try to protect it until it heals? OR B. Ignore that you are wounded and go clean your toilet without wearing gloves? The reason N.O.P.E. is so important is because you generally cant just have one. Its not so much because ONE means you will become a full-time smoker again (although that is exactly what happens the majority of the time.) Its because your brain has been healing for four months (or more) Lily and it has been trying to re-wire itself without nicotine. That ONE contains nicotine and it goes straight to your brain. BAM! You are confusing your brain and making it harder for it to heal. STOP IT! *we can pretend that was me yelling* ;) "Option B" above is honestly no less foolish than thinking smoking will help you deal with stress. Science tells us that is NOT true. These things will help you deal with stress. Become aware of your own reactions to stress. Reinforce positive self-statements. Focus on your good qualities and accomplishments. Recognize and accept your limits. Remember that everyone is unique and different. Exercise regularly. Talk with friends, a support group or someone you can trust about your worries/problems. Set priorities. Take frequent short breaks. AND Practice relaxation techniques. (For example, whenever you feel tense, slowly breathe in and out for several minutes.) Dont create more stress for yourself by making a conscious decision to go buy a pack. I know its not easy to resist but you need to understand that by doing that youve put yourself back into hell week Lily. So now you need to begin doing what you began doing in October 2005. You also need to read Shevie's post "Rewards, Nicotine and the brain" It will help you. Take care. :) ~all the best 2 My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 199 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,395 Amount Saved: $995 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 23 Mins: 2 Seconds: 4

Hi there and welcome. You've made the first right step in coming here for help. That means you do have the desire to quit and stay quit. Look at the program tools on the left here <~~. They are all excellent tools in helping you to quit and maintain your quit. STOP BUYING CIGARETEES! That is the first HUGE step you can make! Remind yourself every day N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever That little word (well, all four of them actually) got me to where I am today and I don't see myself ever wanting to go back to smoking. EVER N.O.P.E. lily.. I am a cold turkey quitter and didn't use the patch but several memebers here have and they say that it takes the edge off of the craves. Whatever method works for you is what you need to do. Just make sure you follow the program for the patch. Regardless of the method, you have to consciously make a choice each and every day that you will not smoke. Quitting isn't easy but it is doable. Remember to take one step at a time regardless of the method you choose to use. Drink a lot of water and take deep breaths. Those things and peppermints got me through that first tough part of the quit. When it comes down to it we all quit the same way. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. Don't light that next cigarette and you've got it made. You can quit and have a smoke free life. The choice is yours. Lily, when you stop saying things like "somehow ended up buying..." and "seemed to get another pack" and own up to what you are doing, then you will be on the road to quitting. As long as you slap yourself on the hand and say "oh, bad me" you won't get anywhere. No one can do this for you. You are the one that has to be strong enough and mature enough not to go to the dealer to buy another fix. You are the one who has to see this as an addiction, just like crack. You are the one who has to make it happen. We can help. We can provide words of encouragement and support. But ultimately you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. And then you have to just not smoke anymore. It's your choice! Lily.....You must realize that you/me/the rest of us here are nicotine addicts.....and you, at this point are letting the addict run your life and tell you what to do. the part of you that wants to quit is just stepping back and letting the junky do HIS thing. This won't stop till YOU take control of your actions and thoughts. Destroy the smokes.....TAKE CONTROL! Once you do it and REFUSE to follow the first demand of the junky, you will be back on the right track. So stop being a bowl of jello and take your life BACK. now....do it right now. katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1523 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60,952 Amount Saved: $8376.5 Life Gained: Days: 198 Hrs: 18 Mins: 13 Seconds: 10
