Superkeener,
The problem isn't that you CAN'T quit, it's that you don't THINK that you CAN.

First of all, what are your reasons for quitting? Is it totally and 100% for the girlfriend? If so, then you're not quitting for the right reasons and therefore, the quit probably won't stick. You have to quit for YOU! She can be a reason, but your primary reasons MUST be because YOU want to... otherwise, if you two happen to break up, then your reason for quitting is gone, and you're right back to smoking whatever and you've just thrown away all of your hard work. Do NOT let that happen! Come up with a list of reasons to quit that are personal to you. It is only when you want to quit more than you want to smoke that a quit will survive.
Next, have you considered NRT? If you have such a hard time quitting, you might want to consider using an aid. It's not cheating to use something to help you if it really does work to get you to finally quit for good.
Also, quitting is a lifestyle change. If you want to quit marijuana as well, you're probably going to have to make some changes to your social patterns, i.e. - not going out with the people who usually smoke pot with you, limiting your exposure to the places where you normally smoke it, etc... That's something you're going to have to think about before you take a serious stab at this... is this a change you're willing to make?
Lastly, this MUST be N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. A puff here and there is the most surefire way right back into active addiction. Yes, it's hard, but it is most certainly worth it. It sounds like you want to grow up and accept responsibility and act like a man... that's great! And you're making several positive steps in the right direction. Good for you! Congratulations on your decision to quit!
Crave the Quit!
