I am new and the stress is raining

Thanks for the posts! I sat next to the hubby outside to talk through all the big issues from the little one today. He asked if HE could have a smoke and I said yes. I wasn't tempted! I kept control and I didn't feel the need to cave.(I was armed with my lozenge in my mouth so my cravings where under my control!) I really needed to decompress with him tonight and I am proud to say - I kept on MY plan! I took action to keep from grabbing the pack by arming myself with my lozenge and I sat across from him out of the "wind" as to not smell nasty! My hubby is so great and wanting to help me quit. He isn't ready - but he will follow when he is. (He told me that he would have to follow me on this one but needs some mental prep time.) He has quit in the past - cold turkey! (Wish I could go that route - but it doesn't work for me.) I was why he started back up this last time. I started up and he grabbed MY pack. I guess he just follows me on his quitting. So, I guess I am now quitting for both of us. (I have tried a few times lately with no sucess - I usually make it two days.) Well, two days is about over and I am feeling confident, strong and ready for day three to come at me with whatever fire it has. I think he is waiting to see if this sticks before he commits to stopping. That is my "thinking". Well, an extra incentive for me to keep strong. I know we both need to quit and I would like to have him around longer too! Having a place to "vent" and a breath of fresh quitter air is what I need. Thanks again for your replies. Just getting the thoughts out into a blog is helpful; knowing someone is with me - that adds TONS of support that I wasn't expecting. :) YEAH! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12 Amount Saved: $9 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 4 Seconds: 26

I am a new Quiter! I am glad I am quiting - but it sure pours on when you need the "stress free" week. My youngest is having so many heart-breaking troubles. I am having a nic-fit wanting to go out back and relax now that the boys are in bed. Thank the Lord for the stupid lozenges - they are better than the gum I tried before. I need to quit to be here for my kids! I am telling myself as I keep getting one hard report about this little kid of mine after another, "A smoke isn't going to help. Being around will help him and I am quiting so I can live long enough to bug them real good." :) My hubby still smokes and is being SO polite and helpful. He has removed everything from the house - so I won't be tempted while I am alone to cheat. :) He even refrains while I am outside with him. Thankfully, we never smoked in the house and that helps. ARGHHHH - I should have taken a vacation for this first week.

Hi CSNM and sorry you're having a tough week of it... Just remember stressful situations will always happen and smoking will not help one iota!! Look after your quit and protect it at all costs - just having one will not help in any way shape or form, in fact it will make you feel awful - just read some of the relapse posts - just not worth going there!! Great that your husband is being considerate too. Anyway you've come to the right place - come here often - it really can be the difference in the success of your quit... Congratulations!! Welcome to the SSC Closet. You have come to the right place to quit. Be sure to check out the program tools to the left and develop a plan for your cravings. Remember to drink a lot of water and take deep breathes. Quitting isn't easy but it is doable. Take some time to check out the site. There is a lot of useful information here about quitting. I never would have survived without the excellent support of those here. Post when you need us. There is always someone around to lend a helping hand. Closet, Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to the SSC. You are very, very fortunate you have a great husband! I see so many here (mostly women) whose spouse is not nearly as cooperative. You have a keeper! ;p Quitting takes strength, determination, commitment and a positive attitude. It sounds like you are on the right track. Always remember that life will go on whether you smoke or not. Smoking never, ever solved a problem. Work on developing new coping mechanisms and do more positive thinking about situations. In the past you probably grabbed a smoke the minute something that required thought hit you. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, we all did. But it's different now. You have left the cancer crutches behind and you are taking charge of your life. Keep focused and take your quit one day or even one hour at a time. You aren't denying yourself a smoke, you have made the well informed decision not to smoke. Congratulations on your new life! CONGRATULATIONS CSMN!!!!!!!!!!You are in the right place to get help with your quit. Everyone's quit is different but the first week or so I spent most of my time reading the posts on SSC. also used the patches. Use whatever works for you and if one thing doesn't help try something else .... just don't smoke. Remember Not One Puff Ever, N.O.P.E. because one puff can ruin a perfectly wonderful quit. YOu arre right when you say smoking won''t help ANYTHING. Just keep telling yourself that and know that your children do need you around. I'm sure things will improve as the days go by. Let us know how you are doing.
