This place helped me quit for a year but then I was an idiot and started again. My last Cigarette this time was at 12am this morning and hopefully it will be my last. I keep thinking that it will be okay to just stop using the patch after less than a week, that I am somehow supposed to be better. I get scared because I wanna workout, but Nicotine raises your blood pressure and heart rate. I don't want that! But I guess I have to deal with it eight more weeks and be happy that I don't have the carbon monoxide which replaces the oxegyn I need. I will try to post on here more often this time around. I always use the excuse that I don't have time or that it is the same thing over and over again. But I really do need a lot of help and I know that I can get it here. Thanks! Thanks all, I was mainly concerned with the heart beat rate and the clogging of the ateries, but in the long run, if i kept smoking anyway, the same would probably happen. Thank you for all your support.

Hi Jer; I too am on the patch. Into the 6th week. My heart rate and bp are being monitored by a health facility and it has steadily gone down and the Dr. said it is great right now. I walk as much as possible, outside when it is nice, treadmill when it isn't. I also had carbon monoxide monitored. When I was still smoking it was 37 units, after l2 hours it dropped to l4 and now it is l!!!! The exercise helps with the cravings. It hasn't helped with my weight at this point. But my hubby told me this AM would rather see a few pounds than tubes in you in a hospital. This has been my first REAL quit and I am proud to be where I am. I have days, but I get through them. Thank God the sun is shining today. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,124 Amount Saved: $116.55 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 8 Mins: 57 Seconds: 19

Hello Jer and welcome. I am a registered nurse, have smoked for 36 years and both my Mother and Mother-in-Law died premature deaths as a result of smoking related diseases. I have worked with many people in respiratory care units and have witnesses the fear , anguish, guilt and sorrow of patients, friends and family. We humans are slow learners, not learning from others' mistakes more times than not. You know the situation here as U said U have traveled this way before. Having said all of this..........and not being under the illusion that this is a very serious , life threatening addiction.........it would be very refreshing to see and hear a little bit of levity .............sharing stories of desperatly searching for a "long" butt left in the ashtray, buying a pack, smoking one and then ceremoniously breaking them all in half and throwing them away only to wake up the next morning thinking about digging those butts out of the trash. Cheers, Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,224 Amount Saved: $324 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 16 Mins: 13 Seconds: 16

If you walked/biked/swam/hiked while smoking........you had more gunk and nicotene in your system then compared to what you have now with the patch. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor, but I know one thing for sure - DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER SMOKING while wearing it. That is truly playing with fire.......... welcome, and good luck! Welcome back jerlasvegas. I'm no doctor, but I don't see why you can't still exercise while you're using the patch.I didn't do much working out while I was on it, but I'm sure others who have here will be able to help you with good advice. I used the patch myself for 8 weeks and I think you probably will need to use it longer than a week. Maybe you should go to your Docs. and get him/her to put you on a good quit program. Keep Strong, you Know what you have to do. I walked, swam and exercised when I quit and I was on the patch. I never had any problems with it. Hope this helps.
